Preoperative chemotherapy for breast cancer can significantly shrink the size of the tumor and metastatic lymph nodes before surgery. Breast surgery thus has the possibility of avoiding the complete removal of lymph nodes in the armpit and reducing the risk of stressful side effects such as lymphedema of the arm.

This is so relatable for so many patients dealing with lymphedema

Don’t you just feel like doing this sometimes?! You almost have to when a doctor or nurse looks clueless(because they are) when you say the word lymphedema. Another one that really gets to me is “You think it’s painful? Well I wouldn’t think it is painful. It’s just edema.” I just feel like pulling may hair every time I have to say:
1. “Wear my body for one day! And feel my pain.” They wouldn’t ever question our pain again!
2. “It’s not edema! It’s LYMPHEDEMA! Two different conditions DOCTOR!”
