My God Seekers,
As I have spent this week in Poughkeepsie, New York, with my HLPM family and my dearly beloved Sister and Presider of Holy Light Pentecostal Ministries, Inc., Apostle Debra E. Gause, I observed a thing!!! And wherever I go, I KEEP observing a thing!

As we convened for Holy Convocation, brothers from South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Zambia gathered with Americans who identify as African American, Haitian, West Indian, Hispanic, and other cultural backgrounds.

Though our music, preaching, and expressions of worship reflected the richness of our diverse cultures, a certain sound emerged in our collective prayer and praise.
Every time that sound arose, there was a powerful eruption of the Spirit among us. It transcended culture, ethnicity, nationality, geography, language, and even various flaws, maturity levels, ages, and spiritual ranks. 👀

There was something about that sound...that resonance...that frequency. It took us somewhere.
The truth is, this was not the first time I have witnessed it. I have observed it repeatedly over the last six years as I have gathered with Black people across this country, in the United Kingdom, and in other settings throughout the African Diaspora. These Holy Convocations are always culturally diverse gatherings, and this one is no different. Yet that same RARE collective sound unified us and took us into the OZONE!

I am sure that most of you have felt or said, “No matter what I do or say, it’s never good enough”. If that’s you, then you will definitely want to come in tonight and chill out on the couch.

Tonight on the Sacred Couch, we are going dig deep into where these beliefs come from as individuals and as a people often reject and oppressed. We will also look at this syndrome from a Biblical perspective and give some tips for how to rewrite that narrative in our own minds and hearts. LET’S GO!

My God Seekers, the sicknesses and deaths continue, and we seem to not be discerning the times for this country, the nations, and especially what time it is for Black people, especially in the west. Even in colonized portions of Africa, our people are slow awakening from years of deep sleep and comatose states. There IS definitely a lot of shaking going on, according the the patterns of the scriptures. This shaking is putting pressure on the ends against the middle.

The middle is where the valleys are, the middle is the wilderness where deconstruction of the oppressor’s systems are purged out of us. The middle is where most of us lose hope and never get to our expected end. It is the place of pressure, uncertainty, and swift transition. That’s were we are. Let’s talk….what must we leave in the wilderness that we cannot take to the Promise Land? Can you survive the pressure and madness of the middle, while in the meantime, we wait on transformation??

Tonight on the Sacred Couch, we will continue to delve into the legitimacy and reality of black rage. It has been tabooed for years, preached against, and denied. But when there is an injustice, disrespect, or mishandling, anger is an appropriate response. We often spiritually bypass it because of the fear it will drawn more injustice and rejection.

But it is having a HUGE impact on us emotionally, spiritually, physically, and relationally. Let’s deal with it tonight, on the couch. Come on in, rest yourself, and let’s explore what is going on inside of us, in the safety of community.

My God Seekers, there is still a WHOLE Lot of SHAKING going on in the heavens and the earth. For many of us, this summer has been a traumatic DOOZIE!!

This week alone, I have painfully learned that when people cannot withstand the shaking, they will make crazy moves, let decoys and distractions dictate their decisions, ditch vital relationships and processes needed to mature them... and then call it God! The number of bright and brilliant people who cannot focus, attend, articulate what's in their heads, stay the course, or remember things is becoming epidemic! WE'RE just SHOOK!

This shaking is unleashing tests and trials unlike anything most of us have experienced before. Does any of this resonate with you? In my dialog with Apostle Stephen Gardner, he described these as Heavy Trials and manifold temptations". This is exactly where so many of us are!!!

1 Peter 1:6 ...wherein we greatly rejoice, though now, for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness, through MANIFOLD TEMPTATION that the trial of your faith being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with 🔥fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory....

James 1:2-4, my brethren, count it all joy when you fall into divers temptations; knowing this-- that the trial of your faith worketh patience 💪🏼; but let patience have HER perfect work that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. Could it be that you are in a series of trials and tests! LET'S TALK!!!

Last week on the Sacred Couch, we brought to the psychological chaise how years of oppression and racism have begun to show up in our bodies, health, spirituality, and relationships—especially between males and females.

Archbishop Ezraeonne Jackson shared some of her lived experiences with us, at age 75, and how she is just beginning to evolve into her whole self after surviving the dangers of being a black woman in America! Few people rarely even see or acknowledge the silent suffering, abuse, devaluing, and erasure of the black woman. The negative tropes of both black men and women add to this, and we sometimes begin to act out, in a self-fulfilling prophecy the narratives and characterization of our oppressors about us.

Is our anger justified? Does our religion cause us to spiritual bypass our TRUE feelings for fear of being mislabeled, and shunned as immature, fleshly, or lacking faith? Has our anger been mislabeled, misunderstood, and condemned, and is it the same for women as it is for men? Tonight, as we chill on the couch, we will look at whether or not our anger is justified, how that black rage shows up in men and in women, and what we can do about it, to express our anger in healthy ways. Or is there even such a thing as healthy anger?

As the death toll among us, and other places on the globe continue to rise, how long will we just question it, and keep on with our religious and social going-on, as though nothing is happening. Why so many deaths among our youth, young women, and premature death of our aging population? Why so much mental health issues, dementia, Alzheimer’s, and cognitive decline? It is affecting our health, wealth, prosperity, relationships and communities. WHAT IN THE WORLD is Going ON?

When will we stop to let HEAVEN give us an assessment of where we are as a people — not a religion, but a people?
