We are excited to share an experience we are co-creating with local artist Gabrielle Thomas with Bayou Brush by Gabrielle called Once Upon an Autumn, a unique experience we are hosting in our bamboo grove at Chappapeela Crafts. We are tending to all the details to make this event truly magical. Participants will sit immersed in nature under the canopy of our bamboo grove while Gabrielle guides everyone to paint their own wood slice with a fall inspired painting. We had a really relaxing and peaceful evening in the classroom last night with Whitney Mixon Seabough who provided an amazing evening of deep relaxing yoga stretches and immersed us in the vibrational sounds of crystal bowls.

These actions are meant to help calm the nervous system and activate the “rest and digest” parasympathetic nervous system function and gently invite the body out of “fight/flight/survival sympathetic mode.

Somatic body work does not force the body into more work. This is not exercise and body sculpting. This is an invitation to join your body and honor it by saying, “I’m ready to rest. I feel and see you”. We are often disconnected from our body and busy in the mind, forgetting that it’s the body that makes it possible to do the things we love.

Taking time to notice the body and what it needs brings the body and the nerves into a grounded and centered state. This is a deep somatic connection where the mind honors the body and all that it does day to day. It is an act of self-love and self-care. Something many of us do not do on a regular basis.

Thank you Whitney for your amazing talents and thank you to all of the beautiful souls who joined. We hope to see you all again very soon!

Local artist and Author, Molly Dot Ryle, is using the classroom at Chappapeela Crafts this June for her therapeutic art workshops. We hope this reaches whoever can benefit from this series. We hope to see many more opportunities such as this in the months to come.

This three-class series (suggest ages 14+) is a creative reset rooted in mindful wellness and self-expression, inspired by Molly's book, The Art of Assessment. Each group session uses simple, guided art practices to help you slow down, reflect, and reconnect with yourself. All three classes are beginner-friendly, including a calming coloring experience, a foundational painting class that builds confidence and flow, and a final immersive painting experience designed to deepen self-expression. Created as a supportive, low-pressure space, these classes focus on process over perfection—no experience needed, just a willingness to explore and create.

We are looking for an individual who would like to help us create and implement our ceramics program. It is our goal to offer regular ceramics courses for children and adults. We need an experienced and motivated individual who can help from the ground up. If you or someone you know would like to speak with us about our plans, please give Nancy a call at 985-507-4143.
