“The best, most intense experience of my life.”

This pregnancy was similar to her others - long and plagued with hyperemesis. We carefully monitored and, with effort, mama made it to the finish line. She warned us that she would have prodromal labor for weeks - she was not wrong! We waited patiently, no one was more patient than mama. When labor finally greeted her, she met it with power and gave birth to her baby on her bedroom floor. Postpartum met its own challenges but this couple remained so strong and weathered each thing.

Caring for this family was so wonderful. Mama taught me a lot this pregnancy and I’m so grateful for her trust!

Welcome Benjamin! You are so loved! 🪴

A VBAC Victory! We started this pregnancy with caution, knowing we might end in the same way. We controlled what we could: team, doulas, nutrition, movement. We let go of what we couldn’t.

Labor started a few days before her estimated due date in the wee hours of the morning. Her doula joined her followed closely by the midwife team. We found her working hard!! Transition visited us shortly thereafter and, with it, fear. Mama requested a shift in plans for an epidural. I had a sneaky suspicion on what was going on (as did the sweet charge nurse at MercyOne Genesis L&D ;) ) but I wanted to honor her request. Half the team continued to support her while half the team prepared to move. Suddenly something (or someone!) shifted and mama started powerfully pushing! Just 21 minutes later, mama achieved her dream: a homebirth after cesarean!!

So continually grateful for docs who are cool with collaboration and charge nurses who get just as excited for the victory!!

Sweet Peter, we love you so!! 🌱

Caring for this sweet family was so easy! We got to know each other well throughout her (long!!) pregnancy. We had so many connections! We attempted a few things to help labor get going but in the end we just needed to trust Damien’s timing. I also wonder if he realized things were a little loud outside with all the siblings he’d be joining!

In the end, labor started perfectly the way it needed and advanced swiftly. She labored encircled by her most important women and her husband, her space echoed with Hail Marys and prayer. Mama caught her big beautiful baby and brought him through the water to her chest into a room filled with laughter and love. What a way to join the Earth!

Welcome sweet Damien! We love you so! 🌿

Another Breech Without Borders training in the books!

Being able to brush up on skills, debrief births, and troubleshoot scenarios is invaluable. I’m so grateful to Whitney Pinger and the love she poured into our community yesterday!!! This woman is a gentle powerhouse with so much skill.

I’m continually grateful for my beautiful team 🥹 what a thing we’ve grown together!

Encompass Midwifery is honored to provide breech care to carefully consented families! 👣

Let’s talk about two important pillars of pregnancy — nutrition and movement!

When it comes to prenatal nutrition, I will always highly recommend the book Real Food for Pregnancy by Lily Nichols RDN 🤰🏻. I have her book and others available within our lending library located in the Refuge Wellness Collective waiting room.

Encompass Midwifery families, you’ll also be able to find handouts that review nutritional intake and recommended supplements in your portal.

Movement in pregnancy is vital! Say it with me.

I recommend walking at least 3 days a week, fast enough to at least get your heart rate up. I also love Spinning Babies “Daily Essentials” — check out their website. This encourages optimal fetal positioning while being supportive to your changing body.
