North Fulton Lactation

North Fulton Lactation Professional Lactation Consulting. Offering prenatal education, virtual and in-home consults.

05/22/2026

In response to this need, I offer prenatal small-group sessions for families due around the same time. These groups are designed to blend realistic preparation, expert guidance, and genuine connection with other parents entering the exact same season of life.

Sessions are held virtually after traditional working hours for flexibility, partners are encouraged to attend, and conversations focus on what families often wish they had known before the baby arrived:
newborn feeding,
milk production,
pumping,
bottles,
postpartum realities,
support systems,
and how to know where to turn when things feel hard.

Families also remain connected through group communication with their cohort, with direct access to me by text during the early hospital days and priority scheduling support after discharge home, helping care and support continue beyond the sessions themselves.

My goal is helping families enter postpartum with more confidence, more context, and a village already beginning to take shape.

The series is led by myself as an RN and IBCLC with more than 10 years of lactation experience. Prenatal lactation care is also commonly covered as an insurance benefit, and guidance is available for verifying coverage and benefits.

More information about prenatal consultations and upcoming groups can be found on my website, or feel free to message me with any questions.

Join your virtual Due Date Feeding Group through North Fulton Lactation.

These small-group prenatal feeding cohorts are designed for families approximately 34–36 weeks pregnant and focus on helping parents feel more informed, supported, and confident entering the early postpartum weeks.

Many feeding challenges families experience after delivery are not caused by a lack of effort — they often stem from limited preparation, delayed support, unrealistic expectations, or simply not knowing what is normal in the beginning.

These groups are designed to change that.

Each cohort includes:
• two live virtual prenatal feeding sessions
• practical, evidence-based feeding education
• partner/support person participation
• postpartum continuity and support
• hospital transition text access
• priority postpartum follow-up scheduling when available
• optional ongoing connection with other families entering the same season of parenthood

The goal is not simply education before birth, but continuity of support through the transition into postpartum feeding and recovery.

Virtual groups will be held Tuesdays from 7:00–8:15 PM and families are encouraged to participate around 34–36 weeks pregnant.

Many insurance plans include coverage for prenatal and postpartum lactation support. North Fulton Lactation partners to assist with insurance verification and review available benefits prior to participation.

Enrollment information and additional details are available through the Prenatal Support page linked in bio.

If you’re new here, welcome 🤍
And if you’ve been here for a while, thank you for being here.

I’m Kara, an RN with 18 years of experience in maternal and infant care, and an IBCLC for over a decade.

My background in labor & delivery and women’s health shaped my clinical approach, but becoming a mother is what truly defined how I care for families.

With four daughters and four very different feeding experiences, I quickly learned that there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

That understanding is what led me to be an IBCLC and open North Fulton Lactation.

As a solo provider practice, I’m able to offer something intentionally different -
thoughtful, individualized care that blends clinical expertise with real-life practicality.

I take the time to understand your goals, assess what’s actually happening, and create a plan that works for you and your baby.

I also work closely with trusted local OB/GYNs, pediatricians, and specialists to ensure you feel supported at every stage.

And beyond individual visits, I offer prenatal and postpartum support groups each month to connect Moms.

Whether you’re preparing prenatally, navigating the newborn stage, or adjusting along the way…

I’m here to help you feel confident in your feeding journey 🤍

Research consistently shows that families who receive prenatal lactation education and early postpartum support have:
• higher rates of breastfeeding initiation
• longer duration of breastfeeding
• increased confidence and satisfaction with their feeding journey
But beyond the data, it’s about having a plan and having a trusted resource.
When we work together prenatally:
• we create a feeding plan tailored to your goals
• I identify any potential challenges ahead of time
• you go into those early days with clarity, not guesswork
And you’re not left on your own after delivery.
With a prenatal visit, I am available by text or phone for support until we meet postpartum, and I plan to see you within 24–48 hours of discharge.
At that visit, we:
• assess feeding and milk transfer
• protect and support milk supply from the start
• make a plan that works for your baby and your goals
This is about setting you up for success, not trying to fix things once you’re already overwhelmed. 🤍

Fl**ge fitting is more than just “finding your size.”
It’s a detailed assessment of how your body, your pump, and your feeding goals all work together. Proper fit is looking at:
• ni**le size + elasticity
• how tissue moves during pumping
• suction response + comfort
• output + efficiency
• pump settings and fl**ge shape compatibility
Because of this level of detail, I recommend pump fittings in-office only.
In office, I’m able to:
• trial multiple fl**ge sizes, shapes, and brands in real time
• assess a full pumping session from start to finish
• make immediate adjustments based on what your body is doing
This isn’t a quick measurement, it’s a hands on, real time assessment designed to improve comfort and optimize output.
If you’re experiencing:
• pain with pumping
• low or inconsistent output
• ni**le swelling, blanching, or damage
• or just feel like something isn’t right
…it’s worth taking a closer look.
You don’t have to “just deal with it.”

This week, bring your carrier—we’re getting outside, staying hydrated, and practicing baby wearing together 🤍
Join us Saturday 3/27 from 10:30–11:30 on the patio at Osteria Mattone for a relaxed Mom’s Group meet-up.
Bring your carrier if you have one—we’ll practice together, troubleshoot fit, and talk through how baby wearing can support feeding and getting out a little more easily. We can even practice feeding in the carrier if that feels helpful.
I’ll have mock mimosas and electrolytes 🍊✨
Feeding always encouraged.
I’ll also have my scale available for optional weight checks.
If this would be helpful to you or a new mom you know, feel free to share 🤍

🍪 Lactation cookies… do they actually help?

I made these for this week’s Mom’s Group because I love to bake—and because nourishing moms matters 🤍

These cookies include ingredients commonly used in lactation recipes:
• Oats
• Ground flaxseed
• Brewer’s yeast

Here’s what we know:

Oats contain beta-glucan, a soluble fiber that may influence prolactin levels, and are also a source of iron to support maternal nutrition.

Brewer’s yeast is rich in B vitamins and protein and is often included for its nutritional profile, though there is no strong evidence that it increases milk supply.

Flaxseed contains omega-3 fatty acids and lignans (phytoestrogens), with theoretical hormonal effects, but no proven impact on milk production.

While these ingredients are nutrient-dense, current research does not show a meaningful increase in milk supply from these foods alone.

What does matter:
• frequent milk removal
• effective latch and milk transfer
• adequate calories + hydration

So no—these aren’t a magic fix for supply.
But a fresh, homemade cookie from someone who cares? That can support a new mom in other meaningful ways 🤍
