June is PTSD Awareness Month.
What is PTSD?
For first responders, PTSD isn't always the result of one specific call or critical incident. More often, it's the accumulation of calls, traumatic events, moral injuries, and experiences that build over months and years of service.

The reality is that carrying the weight of what we see and experience has an impact.

You don't have to tough it out.
You don't have to carry it alone.
Being proactive about your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Reach out, talk to someone you trust, connect with peer support, or seek professional help before the load becomes too heavy to manage.
Strength isn't ignoring what you're carrying. Strength is recognizing when it's time to get support.

Congratulations Terri! Thank you for all you do!

The City of Roswell's Mission Pillar Award recognizes a city employee’s efforts in exhibiting one or more of the city's core values of accountability, communication, excellence, integrity and teamwork. One award winner is selected each month from the nominations received that month.

The honoree for the May Mission Pillar Award is Terri Sykes, an emergency communications dispatcher at consolidated dispatch, the Pecos Valley Regional Communications Center.

The award nomination submitted for Terri refers to her as an “exceptional dispatcher” who “handles every call with professionalism, compassion, and precise instruction, ensuring callers receive the highest level of care during critical situations.”

The nomination noted one incident in which Terri assisted a father through the successful birth of his daughter…“guiding him step-by-step to ensure a safe delivery while keeping him calm until emergency medical personnel arrived.”

“Terri communicates with clarity and composure, maintains control of high-stress situations, and consistently prioritizes the safety and well-being of the public,” the nomination said. “Her dedication to excellence and her ability to support both callers and responders reflect her strong commitment to serve and teamwork.”

🌯🧇 Shift Bid Breakfast 🧇🌯
This morning, our Patrol Divisions gathered for shift bid and enjoyed a breakfast together.
A big thank you to Georgia and Raylinn from Records for making Georgia’s famous waffles, and to Command Staff, Norma, and Bella for cooking and serving breakfast burritos. It was a great opportunity to connect, share some laughs, and start the day together.
Meanwhile, K9 Beaumont was disappointed to learn that dog-approved waffles were not on the menu. 🐾 Despite this setback, he still attended his weekly "Beaumont Briefings" and made his rounds with the officers.
