There was a moment in my career when I realized something wasn’t right.

Psychiatry had shifted from a field of communication…
to a field of chemical imbalance.

And every time I diagnosed someone or wrote a prescription, something in me broke too.

So I began trying something different.

I replaced labels and medications with creativity.

Art.

Writing.
Cooking.

Many people believe their struggle is uniquely worse than everyone else’s. That their experience stands apart and must mean something more serious.

The more attention we give to our distress the more convincing that story can become.

When we amplify our concerns and focus on how different or intense they feel it becomes easier to assume there must be a diagnosis behind it.

Certainty grows not always from truth but from repetition and focus.

There is another perspective. What you are experiencing may not be unique in the way you think. It may be deeply human.

When that realization lands it softens the need to label and opens the door to understanding rather than judgment.

Feeling sad distracted nervous or out of balance has often been framed as a sign that something is wrong.

Over time many people have been led to believe these experiences point to a permanent issue rather than a passing state.

But emotions and internal experiences are not fixed. They move. They shift.

They follow their own natural rhythm. When they are treated as permanent it changes how people see themselves and what they believe is possible.

There is another way to understand it. These states are part of being human not evidence of being broken.

When we allow them to move instead of labeling them as lifelong conditions we create space for change and renewal.
