Anyone been here? I know I have. That season where everyone has different schedules, food preferences, and somehow you’re supposed to make it all work.

When you make dinner one of the following scenarios happens:

What you made doesn’t sound good so they make ramen instead

They decide on the day you made pasta that they are on a high protein meal plan

They went to a friends house after school and ate over there

Their friends are going to grab good out so they ask you for money to join

After four nights of making food that isn’t eaten, having leftovers for lunch the next day whether you wanted to or not, and feeling defeated you decide it doesn’t actually make sense to plan dinner tonight.

And then you get the text from your teen at 6:15 PM, “what’s for dinner?” and you feel like throwing your phone across the living room. Yep, I’ve been there.

When you hit that wall, you don’t need permission to step away. Five minutes in your car. Ten in your bedroom. A walk around the block. Whatever you need to breathe and reset. That’s not checking out. That’s taking care of the person who’s been taking care of everyone else.

Your teen will survive figuring out their own dinner. You’ll survive saying “I’m done for today.” 🤍

That moment when your teen’s anger lands on you and it feels personal, even though you know better. You’re not alone in wondering if you’re handling it right and replaying the interaction afterward over and over again.

Being the person they trust enough to fall apart with is actually a sign you’re doing something right. It doesn’t mean every response will be perfect. It means you’re their safe place, and that matters more than getting it all right in the moment.

Remember:

🌿Your teen can be upset at you AND you can be parenting well

🌿Sometimes teens hold it together everywhere else and let their big feelings come out with the person they trust

🌿You can stay grounded even when they’re having a hard time

🌿You can say, “I see you’re really angry” AND “I’m not okay with you speaking to me this way”

🌿You will have moments where you wish you handled things differently. You can always go back and reconnect

🤍Save this post for the next time you’re feeling unsettled after an angry interaction with your teen.

A hard no doesn’t have to end the conversation.

When teens feel heard, they’re more likely to stay connected—even when the answer is no.

Parenting teens and young adults is hard.

These “hills I’ll die on” can be especially hard to practice when you’re worried, frustrated, exhausted, or feeling like you’re getting it wrong.

Parents don’t struggle because they don’t care—they struggle because they care so much.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s coming back to connection, curiosity, and repair.

If you sometimes feel overwhelmed or unsure, you’re in the right place.

Follow along for reminders, tools, and encouragement for navigating this season with more confidence and connection 🤍

Sometimes we notice anxiety in our bodies first.

A headache.
A tight jaw.
A sore neck.
A heavy chest.
An upset stomach.

These physical signs can be clues that we’re overwhelmed or on high alert.

Noticing what’s happening in our bodies can be the first step toward understanding what we need.

🤍 What’s one way anxiety tends to show up in your body?

07/13/2026

We often think of anxiety as racing thoughts, overthinking, or avoiding things. All valid…

But did you know that anxiety often shows up in our bodies first?

A headache.
A tight jaw.
A sore neck.
A heavy chest.
An upset stomach.

These signs can be our body telling us that something is off.

Noticing what we experience in our bodies is the first step toward greater awareness of what’s going on with our emotions.

🤍 Which of these do you notice when you’re feeling stressed or anxious?
