Today is National Sunscreen Day! Sunscreen is essential for health because it protects skin from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, significantly lowering the risk of skin cancers like melanoma and basal cell carcinoma. It prevents painful sunburns, reduces premature skin aging (wrinkles, leathery skin, brown spots), and helps maintain an even skin tone. Daily use is recommended to shield skin DNA from damage. UV radiation is a known carcinogen, and daily application of sunscreen (especially SPF 30 or higher) is a critical, proven method to reduce the risk of developing skin cancers.
