The Minnesota Department of Health's Equitable Health Care Task Force recently released its recommendations, including:

• Increasing investment in primary & whole-person care to improve health care access for patients across MN.

• Expanding residency training opportunities in rural, underserved & Tribal communities.

• Supporting international medical graduates.

• Expanding workforce development efforts, including loan forgiveness + training opportunities.

• Building stronger team-based care models, including greater use of community health workers + care coordinators.

Day 2 at = learning, leadership + connection. 💙

From hands-on procedural training & educational sessions to national leadership opportunities, MN continued to make an impact.

📍 MAFP Resident Director Sumaiyya Mohiuddin, MD, of UMN Family Medicine and Community Health, joined the panel for "Rural Medicine: Exploring the Facts + Myths."

🗣️ MN also had a voice in the Student + Resident Congresses, with Mohiuddin & Christina Lan, of the University of Minnesota Medical School, serving as delegates. Lan testified on a resolution she co-authored related to patient use of AI.

🌟 The day wrapped up with the MN Reception, bringing together med students, residents, faculty, residencies & partners for an evening of conversation, encouragement + community.

Day 1 of is in the books! 🎉

🚌 23 MN med students are attending this year's national conference to explore residency programs, connect with family medicine leaders + discover the many paths a career in family medicine can take.

Their participation is possible thanks to support from the MAFP Foundation, generous individual donors, UMN Family Medicine and Community Health & Family Medicine Residency at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. 🙌

MN also had a strong presence throughout the day, from the Expo Hall to educational sessions hosted by MN programs, including The Fourth Trimester (Mayo) + Building Your Financial Foundation (UMN).

💬 "I've never seen this kind of energy before, & it's never been more necessary" (Senator Matt Klein, M.D.).

That spirit defined the MAFP's first-ever Family Medicine Advocacy Day, where family physicians, resident physicians & med students came together to advocate for patients, meet with lawmakers & shape Academy policy. The day also served as a training ground for the next generation of physician advocates.

📣 Advocacy doesn't require a full day away from the clinic — it starts with one message, one introduction, one relationship.
