One thing I always include whenever I facilitate a training on trauma is a conversation about self-care. Even when everyone in the room is an adult, I still make it a point to teach a simple technique.
Some people may think it's unnecessary. After all, we're adults. We should already know these things, right?
I believe that if we're going to talk about something heavy, we should also leave people with a tool they can carry with them. Whether they choose to use it or not is up to them. At least they leave knowing they have something to return to.
Yesterday, I had the honor of facilitating a trauma training for a group of about 20 people, many of whom did not speak English. It was such a beautiful experience to hold space for them and guide them through a simple breathing exercise. They were receptive, engaged, and willing to try something new together.
What touched me most was the feedback afterward. Many noticed a shift on how they felt. A few laughed because it was so silly. Several people shared that the breathing activity was one of their favorite parts.
And honestly, I was confused because what activity?Maybe that's exactly the point.
Sometimes we forget how powerful it is to simply pause and breathe with intention. We move through life carrying stress, responsibilities, and experiences without realizing how disconnected we've become from our own bodies. We forget that something as natural as our breath can help bring us back to ourselves.
Yesterday wasn't just about learning about trauma. It was about recognizing that healing doesn't always begin with something big. Sometimes it begins with a single intentional breath.
I just want to pause and savor this moment this morning. To sit with the gratitude. To acknowledge that even in the midst of a busy season, I was able to show up authentically, serve wholeheartedly, and make an impact. And that, in itself, is my reason why. 💗
Plus the photo is just a distraction because I didnt capture any moments from yesterday. Enjoy !
