💜 Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month reminds us that a dementia diagnosis is the start of a new journey—one filled with challenges, questions, and emotional moments. But at the heart of it all, your loved one is still them—full of memories, love, and a lifetime of experiences that deserve to be honored.

Even with dementia, life can hold moments of beauty, connection, and dignity. This month, we stand with families and caregivers, shining a light on understanding, compassion, and support🌿✨

June is Alzheimers and Brain Awareness Month. Once again Coffey Automotive will be donating $5 for every oil change done in the month of June to my St. Charles Country Walk to End Alzheimers Team, Assisted Living Locators St. Charles! You will get to sign a purple flower and hang it in the lobby. Let's fill the lobby with our purple flowers to show support and make a difference in the fight against this disease. 💜 💜 💜

June is right around the corner and that means Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month!

If I get dementia - My wish of how I wish to be loved and supported. 💜 💜 💜

Every time you enter the room, announce yourself. "Hi Sharon, it's Suzy." Please never ask, "Do you know who I am?" This question creates anxiety. Just offer your name with love.

Embrace my reality - even if it doesn't match yours.

Let me believe what brings me peace, even if it's not true.

Don't argue with me. Meet me where I am.

If I don't recognize you, don't take it personally.

If I can't use utensils, try finger foods - I may still feed myself.

If I'm sad or anxious, hold my hand and just be with me.

Talk to me like the adult I am.

Help me keep enjoying the things I've always loved.

Ask me to tell you a story from my past.

If I'm upset, take time to find out why.

Treat me the way you'd want to be treated.

Keep snacks nearby - I might not be able to say I'm hungry.

Don't talk about me like I'm not there.

Don't feel guilty if you can't do it all - ask for help.

Visit me, even if I'm in a memory care community.

Be patient if I confuse names or places.

Play my favorite music - it will still reach me.

Help me return items I carry around.

Include me in gatherings. I'll feel your love.

Hugs and hand-holding still matter.

Most of all, remember - I'm still me.

In honor of those we love who are living with dementia. For those we've lost, those who are still fighting, and those who care for them every day.

Unsolicited text and emails aren't just annoying they are one of the most common ways scammers get access to your personal information. If a message shows up out of nowhere, especially one urging you to "act now", click a link, or provide sensitive details, thats a red flag. Legitimate companies rarely ask for passwords, Social Security numbers, or payment information through text or email. Before clicking on any link pause and verify. Go directly to the company's official website or contact them using a trusted number, not the one in the message. When in doubt don't click, don't reply, and don't share! Delete the message or report it as spam.

Scammers are everywhere here are a couple more tips on how to safeguard you and your family.
-Family "Code Word"- This is a secret word or phrase that you and your family agree to use to confirm the identity of who you are speaking to during a suspicious phone call. Make it something that is not obvious.
-Multi-Factor Authentication: This security step asks for two or more ways to verify your identity and secure your accounts. It makes it harder for someone to access your accounts and keeps things more secure.

What to do if you or someone you know has been scammed:
-Contact Your Bank to safeguard your accounts. If wire transfers were sent, request a recall and a hold harmless letter from your financial institutions.
-Protect Your Credit. Safeguard your credit by contacting the three major credit bureaus:
Equifax 1-800-685-1111
Experian 1-888-397-3742
TransUnion 1-888-909-8872
-Report it to Authorities: Contact your local authorities and file a report with www.ic3.gov. This helps to get the word out about the newest scams.

Voice cloning is becoming one of the scariest forms of scamming. Scammers use artificial intelligence to mimic a person's voice, often pulling short audio clips from social media, voicemails, or videos. They can even take your "yes" response when answering a call asking if it is you and then use that for permission to access accounts. Scammers will take those audio clips and make it into something that can cause you to feel that a loved one needs your help immediately causing panic. They will ask for money or gift cards to bail them out of jail, pay a fine, help them out with groceries, etc. The safest response in this situation is to hang up and call your friend or loved one from your phone that just called you. Typically they never called you in the first place and are safe at home.
