There’s a specific kind of grief that doesn’t get talked about much. It doesn’t involve death or divorce or any of the losses we have cultural scripts for. It happens the day you stop texting first, stop organizing the catch-ups, stop being the one who reaches out — and realize that some of ...

Will you do something really cool or loving for someone you know or a stranger today?

So….this Epstein s**t has flipped a switch for me. Like are these people even actually human? Cruelty to children is unacceptable, as in its definitively wrong. It is an act against all of us.

I don’t know what to do right now but maybe combating pure f’ing evil with random acts of kindness is a start?

Was it tough for Truman Capote to stay true to himself growing up in rural Alabama in the '30's? How do we stay true to ourselves when we feel on our own? Maybe its just one conscious moment at a time that turns into a more consistent habit of not abandoning ourselves. Here's a short piece of when I met one of Capote's childhood detractors.

My dog is wild. Although older now, she still needs a long walk, off leash preferably, each day. This means finding woodsy trails, timed to anticipate not meeting anyone else on the trail to avoid the dog's unpredictable mood. Yesterday as I meandered and she sprinted the last few hundred feet towards the car, I stopped by a fir tree. He must have been old, wide enough I couldn't have wrapped my arms around him and touch my own finger tips. I didn't hug him but I did lean against him, then pulled my winter hat up over my ear so I could listen to the tree, feel the bark on my cheek. I slung one arm around him and breathed next to him. This morning I was reading about staying present and how that can feel like a free-fall at times and I realized yesterday was the first time in a while, I felt safe and grounded and present as I held onto another life force, much bigger than me, for just a few moments.

I found a bunch of old photos today. Little did I know when this one was taken, at 4 years old on my first day of school in Newfoundland, how important reading and and writing would become to me 🎉😊

Relationships are the modern day monk-hood. No need to meditate on a mountain-top to find inner peace.

If spending time with your fam triggers you, you’re normal, not broken. Whatever it takes to regulate yourself when feeling activated (somatic skills, mindfulness, practicing assertiveness and boundaries, walking away, taking prolonged time and space), do it even if it feels awkward at first.
