Changes are coming—and I’m excited to share what’s next.

Moving forward, every session will begin with a movement assessment, balance testing, and muscle testing.

Why? Because pain and tightness don’t always tell the whole story. Simply massaging what feels tight or strengthening what seems weak may not address the bigger picture.

By looking at how you move, how you balance, how your muscles work together, and how your nervous system responds, we can get a better understanding of what your body is telling us.

“Your body tells a story through the way it moves. My job is to listen before deciding where we begin.”

This gives me a more informed starting point and allows your treatment to be even more intentional and individualized.

Assess. Treat. Reassess.

I’m really excited to bring this approach into every session, and I think you’re going to like the difference.

Just come as you are. I’ll guide you through the rest.

KEEP WORKING ON THE SAME TIGHT AREA… ONLY FOR IT TO COME BACK? 🔄

Maybe it’s a tennis ball at the base of your skull 🧠, a lacrosse ball around your shoulder blade, scraping the same stubborn area, or foam rolling your IT band.

You get some relief… but eventually find yourself working on the same area again.

Sometimes persistent tension may involve more than the area where you feel it. 💡

That’s why my sessions begin with a detailed assessment of movement and muscle function before any hands-on treatment.

The goal is to identify patterns that may be contributing, use those findings to guide the session, and then reassess for change.

Assess 🔎 → Treat 🙌 → Reassess ✅

Because sometimes the area asking for the most attention isn’t the only area worth looking at.

Next weekend, I’ll be returning to Chicago to continue expanding my knowledge and refining the assessment-based approach I use in each session.

If you’re an athlete, lead an active lifestyle, experience TMJ-related concerns, or are dealing with ongoing pain and tension, this approach may be a valuable addition to your care.

If you’ve been thinking about scheduling a session or would simply like to learn more, feel free to send me a message. I’m always happy to answer any questions. Feel free to DM or book at alleviateandalign.com (Indiana) or advancedcaremassage.com (Louisville).

Why I use isometrics during treatment

Sometimes the simplest things can tell us a lot.

An isometric is a muscle contraction where you create tension without much movement. I use them during treatment to help with muscle recruitment, control, and stability.

They can also help us explore how your muscles are working together—whether one seems to be working harder than it needs to, while another may not be contributing as well as expected.

Then we reassess.

One of my favorite reactions is when clients smile or laugh because something that looks so simple is surprisingly challenging—or because we retest and a movement suddenly feels different.

That’s why my sessions aren’t always about massaging where you feel tight. Sometimes it helps to look at how everything is working together.

If you keep dealing with the same tightness or discomfort, sometimes it’s worth looking beyond where you feel it.

You stretch it.
You massage it.
But it always comes back.

I recently worked with a client whose shoulder muscles kept testing weak. Every time she lifted her arm, her body compensated by turning—and her upper trapezius was doing far more work than it should because her obliques weren’t helping.

The tight muscle wasn’t the whole story.

That’s why I don’t just treat where it hurts. Every session starts with an assessment to identify why it’s happening, followed by treatment and exercises tailored specifically to you.

If your neck or shoulders always feel tight, but nothing seems to last, let’s find out why.

One year ago, I opened the doors to my treatment room in The Sage Room.

Looking back, I’m filled with gratitude.

To every client who trusted me with your care—thank you. Whether you came in with pain, uncertainty, frustration, or simply wanting to move and feel better, it has been a privilege to be part of your journey.

Over the past year, I’ve continued learning, growing, and refining my approach because you deserve the best care I can provide. Every session has taught me something, and every person who has walked through my door has helped shape the therapist I’m becoming.

My goal has never been to simply provide a massage. It’s always been to listen, assess, understand, and provide care that’s tailored to the individual in front of me.

Thank you for your trust, your encouragement, your referrals, your reviews, and for allowing me to do work that I genuinely love.

Here’s to another year of helping people move better, feel better, and live with less pain.

I’m grateful for every one of you.

In a world that moves quickly, it’s easy to forget that every person you meet is carrying something you may never see.

That’s why every session begins with a simple question.

“How can I help?”

Not because I have all the answers.
Not because I can fix every challenge life brings.
But because every person deserves to be heard, treated with dignity, and cared for.

Listening is where the best care begins. When I ask questions, it’s never to pry—it’s to better understand your experience so I can provide care that’s individualized, personalized, and centered around you.

Sometimes we talk about pain.
Sometimes we talk about movement.
Sometimes we simply take a moment to slow down.

Before there’s an assessment…
Before there’s treatment…

There’s a person.

That’s who I’m here to care for.

How can I help?

❗ Can’t get rid of that “knot” between your shoulder blade and spine?

It might not actually be the problem.

The pectoralis minor is a small muscle in the front of your chest that helps control shoulder blade movement. Sometimes it may be working harder than it needs to, which can change how your shoulder blade moves.

At the same time, the rhomboids—the muscles between your shoulder blades—may not be working hard enough to help stabilize it.

This may contribute to:
✅ Shoulder blade discomfort
✅ Neck and upper trap tension (that “knot” on top of your shoulder)
✅ Rounded shoulders
✅ Discomfort during pressing movements

Simply massaging the “knot” may provide temporary relief—but it doesn’t always address why it keeps coming back.

🧠 The key is assessment—not guesswork. An assessment helps determine which muscles may be working harder than they need to, which may not be working hard enough, and how they’re working together to create more efficient movement.

Neck & Jaw Tension Isn’t Always a Neck Problem 🧠

Today I worked with a client dealing with neck tightness and jaw discomfort 😣

We started with the jaw and front of the neck, but the body kept showing a deeper pattern — instability through the hips and core ⚖️

She also kept resting her hand on her hip and lower abdomen, and mentioned her low back had been bothering her too 🔍

On assessment, the psoas was overworking while the QL wasn’t activating enough. Once we improved that balance:• Neck tension reduced 💆‍♂️• Jaw tension eased 😌• The neck “wiggle” disappeared 🚫• Low back felt better 🔓

The body often shows symptoms where it’s compensating, not where the problem starts 🔄

If you’re dealing with recurring tension, headaches, jaw discomfort, neck tightness, or movement restrictions that keep coming back — I’d love to help 🤝

“This feels unlike any massage I’ve had before.” ✨

Most massage is simple: you lie down 🛏️, get worked on 💆‍♂️, and leave 🚪.

My sessions are different—and completely customized to what your body needs that day.

You stay fully dressed, and I often have clients on and off the table throughout the session.

That’s intentional.

Because I’m not just working on where you feel tight—I’m looking at how your body is actually moving and responding in real time 🔄

So I:
🔍 assess movement patterns
💪 muscular imbalances
🧪 test what actually changes
🔧 adjust the treatment based on what I find

No two sessions are the same.

That can mean more corrective, assessment-based work ⚙️
—or if your body needs it, more relaxing, downregulating work 🌿
