Lawrence (Larry) Romero Sandoval

Lawrence (Larry) Romero Sandoval, 91, passed away on April 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born on September 1, 1934, in French Camp, California and moved to Salinas as a young boy. On November 5, 1953, he married the love of his life, Louise. Together had eight children and shared 65 years of love until her death in 2019.

Larry is preceded in death by his loving wife, Louise Mary Sandoval, and his sons, Peter Sandoval, David Sandoval and Larry Sandoval. Grandsons Joey Sandoval, Abel Sandoval, and Nick Sandoval. Great-grandson Adam Sandoval. Daughter-in-law Mary Esther Sandoval. His parents Augustine Sandoval and Bertha (Bersabe) Sandoval-Olvera. Brothers: Joe Sandoval, Victor Sandoval, Edward Johnny Sandoval, Augustine Sandoval, and Raymond Olvera and sister Dora Sandoval

He is survived by his sons and their spouses, Joe and Elsa Sandoval, Richard and Karie Sandoval, and son, Tony Sandoval. Daughter Louise Sandoval, daughter and spouse Linda and Domingo Ramirez. Also, 65 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

We lost an incredible man—an amazing father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, coach, and friend to so many. Larry made a lasting impact on this community and on every life he touched.

Larry had a special gift for seeing potential where others sometimes did not. The youth he coached were often labeled as troublemakers, but he saw them for who they truly were—kids who just wanted a chance to play ball, to belong, and to grow. He didn’t just teach them how to play the game; he taught them life—discipline, respect, perseverance, and heart.

His love and support for his family were constant and unwavering. Whether it was a game, a dance, or a theater performance, Larry and Louise were always there—cheering from the stands, showing up with pride, and making sure they all felt supported in everything they did.

Larry also gave back in many ways. He supported and inspired many in AA and at the Alano Club, always reminding others that they mattered and that change was possible. He had 50 years of sobriety. He was also active at the Firehouse and Bread Box (Senior Centers), where he was so loved!

We were so blessed to call him family—part of the Sandoval Strong family. Larry and Louise showed us what a strong marriage and family looks like: one built on commitment, resilience, and love that doesn’t give up when life gets hard. They reminded us that our struggles and losses often shape us more than our victories. They taught the importance of hard work. They came from very humble beginnings and worked hard every day of their lives to give their family a better life. They showed us that family is everything—that we stand together, no matter what. Their happiest moments were when everyone gathered, where there was never a shortage of food, laughter, or good music. Most of all, they taught us that helping others is not a burden, but an honor and a blessing.

It is our prayers that we continue to live out these lessons and honor Larry’s legacy.

A celebration of life will be held in Larry’s honor on Wednesday, May 6 from 2pm-6pm at the Salinas Rodeo grounds in the Rodeo room.
