We recognize that mental health is deeply shaped by history, community, and lived experience. The racial disparities that exist in healthcare, including behavioral health, are real, and they matter.

At Daymark Recovery Services, we are committed to providing culturally responsive, compassionate care to every person in our community. We honor the strength of those who came before us and the communities who continue to carry that legacy forward.

A decade ago, Rick Wilburn experienced a medical emergency while working out and became unresponsive. Thanks to the quick actions of those around him and the availability of an AED, his life was saved.

To commemorate the 10-year anniversary of that day, Rick and the team at Wilburn Medical chose to give back by donating AEDs to organizations throughout our communities.

We are honored to share that Daymark was selected as one of the recipients! Thanks to their generosity, our new Harnett Behavioral Health Urgent Care now has a ZOLL AED that will help protect the safety of our patients, visitors, and staff.

Thank you to Rick Wilburn and Wilburn Medical for turning a personal story of survival into an opportunity to save lives and strengthen our communities. ❀️

Another way PTSD can show up is through avoidance.

When someone has been through something traumatic, the mind sometimes tries to protect them by steering clear of anything that might bring those feelings back. This might look like avoiding certain places, people, or conversations. It might mean pulling back from activities you used to enjoy, or feeling emotionally numb so that nothing gets too close.

Avoidance can feel like relief in the short term, but over time it can make it harder to move through the world and connect with the people you love. Healing from trauma often means slowly and safely working through what you have been avoiding.

This week is Men's Mental Health Week, and we want to say something directly to the men in our community: your mental health matters. πŸ’š

Full stop. We know that talking about mental health can feel uncomfortable, especially when you have spent a lifetime being told to tough it out. But struggling in silence is not strength. Asking for help is.

This week, we are talking openly about the mental health challenges that affect men, because the more we talk about it, the easier it gets for someone to take that first step.

PTSD is more common than most people realize.

According to the National Center for PTSD, about 6 out of every 100 people will experience PTSD at some point in their lives. For women, that number is higher. Trauma can come from many places, including accidents, illness, loss, violence, or childhood experiences. PTSD does not discriminate.

It affects people of every age, background, and walk of life, right here in North Carolina and across the country. Knowing how common it is matters because it means no one should feel alone in what they are going through.

Anxiety in men does not always look like worry. 😟

It can look like needing to stay busy all the time, snapping at people over small things, or lying awake at night with your mind racing. A lot of men brush it off as stress or being wound up. But when that feeling does not go away, and it starts getting in the way of work, relationships, or just enjoying life, it is worth paying attention to.

You do not have to white-knuckle your way through it. There are real tools that help, and talking to someone is a good place to start.

If you or someone you know is in a Behavioral Health crisis, we can help. Call 866-275-9552 for our mobile crisis team.
