Healing hands for Hayleigh

Healing hands for Hayleigh Hayleigh was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on 11/2/2022. We thank God everyday for His healing hands.
🎗️🙏🏻🙌🏻 Hayleigh turned 3 in May 2022.

After a hard fought battle with many setbacks & challenges, she rang the bell 1/10/2025. In July 2022, she began running random fevers with no other symptoms & no one else in the home being sick. They would last 3-4 days & go away with Tylenol or Motrin. This would happen every 2-3 weeks. Her pediatrician saw her several times and we were always told is was a virus, cutting teeth, etc. She was see

n October 26, 2022 by a new pediatrician & we were told the same thing. That doctor said if her fevers hadn't stopped by the following week, to contact her. Which we did, on October 31, & I pressed for the doctor to draw blood. That blood test was a simple finger prick which showed enough to make the doctor contact hemotology & oncology @ Brenner Childrens Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. Halloween night, October 31, 2022, Hayleigh was sent to Brenner's for direct admission. After many tests, we learned she has ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia). Unfortunately, this is true. What makes it even worse is the doctors will tell you that a fever is not a side effect of treatment, but every time Hayleigh had a hospital treatment, we were in the ER within 24 hours.

It became so frequent that I stopped unpacking our bags. Other than pulling out dirty clothes, the bag stayed packed & sat less than 3ft away from the bed at all times.

We remain, each day, that those days are over. For those of you in it, we see you & pray for you daily.

Sometimes the worst event in your life can bring the biggest blessings.

On our Lighthouse Retreat in July, Hayleigh met Riley & they’ve loved each other since meeting. They’ve stayed in touch via text & FaceTime. And yesterday we were able to meet up with Riley & her mother, Jen. They had the best time! 🥰

We took Hayleigh’s Make-a-Wish trip in 2023. We’ve been “alumni” ever since.

This past Saturday they held their first Central NC event & we were able to go. Hayleigh’s big sister, Kenleigh, and Kenleigh’s boyfriend, Evan, attended with us. 🥰

Families fighting childhood cancer rarely get quality time together. They're consumed by medical bills, hospital stays, and a kind of exhaustion most people will never understand.

Lighthouse Family Retreat changes that.
They provide week-long retreats where families can recharge, reconnect, and enjoy quality time - completely FREE of charge.

Last week, my Mom, Hayleigh, & myself spent the week at Emerald Isle, NC being served by the selfless people who volunteer and serve with Lighthouse Family Retreat. This trip was nothing short of amazing. I don’t even have the words to adequately express the gratitude for this trip and all the things experienced during the week.

Each family that attends is paired with Family Partners. Our family could not have been anymore perfectly paired. Jen Shepard, Caitlin Shepard, Hailey Thompson, & Jen’s 7yo daughter, Riley, were assigned to us. Hayleigh formed a bond with Riley that will continue in the future & that in itself was worth the trip.

We also had the absolute pleasure of meeting Leaders, JeffandLisa Price. They’ve traveled the childhood cancer road & truly don’t realize the positive impact they make on other parents alike.

Brian & I had to make the difficult decision for him & Julia to stay behind as Julia had absolutely no fear of water or the dangers that could potentially lie within. And the ocean was very angry the entire week. We only got to go on the beach twice due to such strong currents.

If your family or a family you know is battling childhood cancer, I 1000% encourage you to reach out to Lighthouse Family Retreat. ❤️‍🩹💛
