HB 328 passed the Senate. The House could vote any day. Underneath the age-gate language is a ban that would cost North Carolina 16,000+ jobs and $3.2 billion in economic activity — while doing nothing an age-verification law alone couldn't already do. Re**er madness has returned to North Carolina.

We're in this WCCB Charlotte story about HB 328, which the NC House is expected to take up this week.

There are really two bills inside this one. The first is the age limit and the packaging and labeling requirements — we want those. We've carded at 21 since the day we opened, and we keep lab reports on hand for everything on the shelf.

The second caps THC at 0.4 milligrams per container. That sounds like a moderate limit. It isn't. There's no product on our shelf that meets it, and none that could.

If you have a few minutes today, your state House member is the person to call.

H**p industry advocates say a bill under consideration in the state legislature would ban all cannabis sales in the state. They say HB 328 will shut down stores and leave tens of thousands of people unemployed.

Current NC law: 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight. HB 328: 0.4 milligrams of total THC per container. Those aren't two versions of the same rule. One allows an actual industry to exist. The other doesn't. Some lawmakers may not realize that gap is what they're actually voting on.

A Whitney Economics analysis puts North Carolina's h**p industry at 16,000+ jobs and $3.2 billion in annual revenue — $4.4 billion counting ripple effects. HB 328 doesn't make that money disappear. It just means NC stops taxing, regulating, or collecting a dime from it. Some of it moves to Virginia. The rest goes underground.
