If you’re new here, welcome. 🤍 I’m so glad you found your way to this little corner of the internet.

Over the past few weeks, so many new faces have joined this community, so I thought I’d introduce myself beyond the credentials and the therapy office.

I’m a therapist, teacher, and someone who believes healing happens in connection. I’m also a wife, mom, reader, traveler, gardener, wine lover, and a human who’s still learning, growing, and practicing what I teach.

Around here, you’ll find conversations about building healthier relationships, breaking old patterns, trauma, and emotional maturity. You’ll also see glimpses of real life. The books I’m reading, the meals I’m cooking, the places I’m exploring, and the moments that remind me to slow down and enjoy this one precious life.

I don’t believe we become better partners, parents, friends, or therapists by consuming more information. We grow by becoming more fully human.

Whether you’re here because you’re a therapist, a relationship coach, someone wanting stronger relationships, or you’re simply curious, I’m grateful you’re here.

I’d love to get to know you too. What brought you here?

Some clients make it easy to stay grounded.

Others… will test every ounce of your capacity.

They interrupt. Deflect. Shut down. Attack. Manipulate. Blame. Or direct their pain at you. And in those moments, it’s not just their nervous system that’s activated—it’s yours too.

The question isn’t whether you’ll have an internal reaction. You will.

The question is: What do you do with it?

This is why clinical skill alone isn’t enough. We need a model that helps us make sense of what’s happening and the personal work to recognize when our own history, protective strategies, or desire to be liked, right, or in control begins to take over.

The most effective therapists and relationship coaches aren’t the ones who never get activated. They’re the ones who know how to notice it, regulate themselves, and stay in relationship while telling the truth.

I explore this more deeply in my recent Psychotherapy Networker article, “The Courage to Confront.” If you’ve ever wondered how to speak hard truths without losing connection—or yourself—I think you’ll find it valuable.

I’d love to hear from you: What kinds of client behaviors do you find most difficult to stay grounded with?

When the cute guy you met at a college party grows up to be the most incredible father, and you get a front-row seat to the entire journey.

I’ve watched Adam become the kind of dad who shows up with patience, consistency, humor, and so much love. The way he champions Carmen, encourages her, and delights in who she is becoming is one of the greatest gifts in our lives.

As someone who spends my days talking about relationships, connection, and the impact we have on one another, I’m reminded that some of the most meaningful relational work happens in the ordinary moments of everyday life. The conversations, the car rides, the laughter, the support, the presence.

It is such an honor to witness this aspect of your life and to build our family alongside you.

Happy Father’s Day to a man who makes all of us feel deeply loved.

Loneliness might be the most important relationship skill no one taught us.
Because so much of our reactivity and protective behavior is really about trying not to feel alone.

Here’s the truth: even the most attentive, loving partner will leave you feeling lonely sometimes.
That doesn’t mean your relationship is broken.
It means you’re human.

Part of mature love is learning how to stay regulated, resourced, and kind to yourself in those moments, instead of outsourcing that pain to your partner.

When you can sit with your loneliness without acting it out, you show up to your relationship calmer, clearer, and way more connected.

You’re not failing at love when you feel lonely.
You’re practicing a skill.

Your Wise Adult has this.

The grounded, regulated part of you that can pause, think, and stay relational even when things feel hard.

Your Adaptive Child did amazing work to protect you once, and now it gets to rest.

It’s not your partner’s job to carry that weight.
It’s your Wise Adult’s responsibility to care for that younger part of you with compassion and maturity.

You can handle your relationship better than your old survival patterns can.

I’m rooting for you. Truly.

And if this feels hard today? Reach out.
Wise Adults don’t do it all alone. They get support when they need it.

Love a good date night… but here’s the plot twist 💥
The real relationship game-changer? Daily connection.

A few intentional minutes of real conversation + presence every day will do more for your relationship than one fancy night out a week ever could.
Date nights are great.
Daily connection is how you actually build closeness.

If you and your partner feel busy, disconnected, or stuck in logistics mode, this tiny habit can change the whole vibe.

🎯 Try it tonight: 10 minutes. Phones down. No distractions. Real conversation.

Drop a ❤️ in the comments to show your commitment to this daily habit. Bonus points if you share an example of how you create this time with your partner. Inspire our community!
