One of the hardest transitions of going from a trainee (medical student, resident, fellow) to an attending is the sheer amount of responsibility. It can be overwhelming at times— but this is why we train. Early on in your practice, no one wants to talk about their complications…. but they happen. You learn from them, read/study more, get back in the lab, and try to improve. Be honest and open with your patients. What has brought me the most joy this past year is when patients come to my office with severe pain and then I take them for a life changing surgery.

My post op patient told me this morning that, “I changed her life.” That’s what it’s all about. That’s why we train so hard. That’s why we do what we do. 🙏🏾
