Here is what is actually happening. Tiny one-way valves in your leg veins are supposed to keep blood moving up toward your heart. When those valves weaken, blood pools in the legs - and that is what causes the aching, swelling, and visible veins. It has a name: venous insufficiency, and it is treatable.
