You missed your own healing, look how far you came.

It goes in many forms such as: setting boundaries, pausing before reacting, and living instead of surviving. Therapy is not about turning into a new leaf, it is about feeling like yourself again.

What’s the thing that has helped your mental health lately?

Why does feeling overwhelmed make you do more?

”I just need to stay busy.”
“I’ll rest after this.”
“I can’t slow down right now.”

But behind that mask?
Exhaustion.

A lot of high-functioning anxiety gets praised instead of noticed.

Just because you are managing everything does not mean all is well inside.

When was the last time you actually felt rested?

At what exact point do your problems become “bad enough” for therapy?

They are:
Overthinking everything.
Struggling to sleep.
Feeling disconnected to self
Running on stress 24/7.

No need to wait until life crumbles apart to deserve support.

Therapy is not just for emergencies.
It is for people who are tired of carrying everything alone.

What are the things you’re keeping to yourself that are long overdue?

ADHD is hard, but it does not have to feel impossible.

There is nothing lazy about constantly fighting to focus, remember things, stay organized, or keep up with daily life. And this holds true for a lot of people with ADHD who are exhausted from trying so hard in silence.

In therapy, you do not have to change everything that you are. You just have to be able to understand your brain with more compassion and less shame.

You do not have to keep struggling alone.

ADHD can look like many things, but it is mostly in the most mundane things where it shows up: In unread texts and half-finished tasks. Even walking into a room and forgetting why.

The worst part is knowing you have ADHD and STILL hearing: “But everyone does that.”

That is the stigma. Remember that there is a difference between occasionally struggling… and feeling mentally overwhelmed every single day.

Did any part of this hit a little too close to home?

One of the hardest parts about ADHD is growing up thinking you are the problem. And it’s not even because someone said it explicitly. It’s more of an accumulation of side comments and snide remarks:

“Why can’t you just do it?”
“You were doing so well before.”
“You just need to try harder.”

So a lot of people with ADHD become experts at hiding how overwhelmed they actually are. Laughing it off, overcompensating, and even apologizing constantly. The truth is, you were never lazy. Far from it, actually.

Your brain is just wired differently, is all. Nothing inherently bad about that.
Bottom line: ADHD is not a character flaw, and struggling silently is not something you should have had to get good at.

What is something you wish people understood about ADHD?

From experience, most people are not afraid of therapy. It’s something deeper. They are afraid of not feeling safe.

Safe enough to be honest and to cry.
Safe enough to say something they have never said out loud.

In trauma therapy, safety comes before everything else.

Because your brain cannot process healing if it still feels like it needs to protect you, remember: you do not have to rush into vulnerability.

The right space makes it possible.

That said, we are curious, what helps you feel safe with someone?

Have you ever felt at home in your own life?

No feelings of being constantly on edge. Most especially, not second-guessing everything and carrying everything alone.

Anxiety therapy.
Depression counseling.
EMDR therapy.
LGBTQ affirming counseling.
Couples counseling.

Different paths. Same outcome.

All of these give you a place to be home.

That said, we are curious, what would feeling “at home” look like for you?
