Okay, I'm 18 days late to posting for Better Speech & Hearing Month — and honestly? That sounds about right. I spent the first day of the month on a call with the AMA and colleagues (while home with my youngest), because our field is on the cusp of some significant changes in billing practices. And then, well... sick kids and May celebrations happened. 🤷♀️
I know a lot of SLPs are feeling the weight of that uncertainty right now, and I see you. 💙 But here's where I land: this profession is too important, too beautiful, and too needed for me to stay in that headspace for long.
So today — National Speech Language Pathologist Day — I'm choosing to celebrate.
I am so genuinely blessed to be in this profession. Every day, I get to help people across the entire lifespan — from a brand-new baby learning to latch and swallow, to a toddler saying their first real words, to an adult rediscovering their voice and their ability to eat and communicate, to educating and advocating for families with a loved one at the end of life.
Communication is a fundamental human right. Feeding is survival and joy. And SLPs get to show up for both. 💙
I'm loving my current SLP season right now as hectic as it is!
