Physicians at UT Health San Antonio are now using artificial intelligence-powered technology during colonoscopies to help detect precancerous polyps in real time.

The computer-aided detection system, known as CADe, serves as an additional observer during colonoscopy procedures, helping physicians identify subtle or difficult-to-see polyps that could otherwise be missed.

By enhancing polyp detection, this technology helps expand access to advanced colorectal cancer prevention and early detection services for patients across South Texas.

Joseph Alderete, MD, director of UT Health San Antonio’s Limb Optimization Program, recently joined Fox & Friends to discuss participating in the 10th annual Tunnel to Towers Climb in New York City, honoring the first responders and fallen heroes of Sept. 11, 2001.

The climb challenges participants to ascend 104 floors and 2,226 steps to the top of One World Trade Center

During the interview, Dr. Alderete reconnected with journalist Benjamin Hall, whose recovery journey included numerous surgical interventions, ultimate reconstructive programming, and rehabilitation oversight performed by Dr. Alderete after Hall was critically injured while reporting overseas. Seeing Hall’s continued recovery reflects the resilience and perseverance that inspires Dr. Alderete’s work caring for patients with complex limb conditions.
