"God specializes in resurrection - taking what's dead and breathing new life into it."

Maybe it's the job that ended unexpectedly, the relationship that shattered, or the dream that died. We've all been there—replaying what went wrong, scrolling through social media wondering why everyone else has it figured out while we're still picking up pieces.

There's a difference between grieving well and getting stuck in grief. David cried out to God in the Psalms, and Jesus wept at Lazarus's tomb. But Scripture also invites us to lift our eyes beyond our current pain and trust that God is preparing something new.

Consider Joseph's betrayal that led to purpose, Ruth's loss that became legacy, Paul's limitations that became platforms. Each required a sacred choice: grieve what was lost while staying open to what God was preparing.

The enemy wants us to believe our current pain is our permanent address. But God specializes in resurrection—taking what's dead and breathing new life into it.

Your story isn't over. This painful chapter isn't the final word.

If you’ll read God, you’ll start hearing Him again. When all else fails, get into His word. He desires to speak with you.

Comparison can distract you from the responsibility of developing your own gifts.

Success is not becoming someone else. It is faithfully using your abilities, opportunities, and potential to become the best version of who you were created to be.

Your assignment is not to outshine others. It is to fully use what you have been given.

After surviving repeated attacks while serving in an Iraq combat hospital—and later losing his son—neurosurgeon Dr. W. Lee Warren found himself overwhelmed by trauma and despair. His recovery began, he says, when he combined Christian faith with the science of neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to form new patterns through repeated thoughts.

Warren began replacing thoughts of fear and loss with gratitude, hope and biblical truth. Pointing to Philippians 4 and 2 Corinthians 10:5, he said, “As soon as you’re ready to change what you think about, your brain is ready to change.” Over time, this practice helped reshape how he responded emotionally to suffering.

Now Warren encourages others not to believe the lie, “This is just how I am.” He says people can recognize destructive thoughts, take them captive and replace them with thoughts aligned with God’s truth. “You’re designed to heal,” he said, “and there’s tremendous hope in that.”

God can use tragedy so well that people sometimes think He orchestrated the tragedy. James 1:17 tells us that every perfect gift is from our Father in Heaven, and He does not change. If it's not good, it's not from God. But He will use it. How we see God impacts our level of hope and anticipation for what He will do in and through our lives.

Some minds turn hard times into bitterness. Others turn the same hard times into compassion. That difference is a choice. ⚖️

Pain itself doesn't decide who you become. It's raw material, nothing more. What your mind does with it, replaying it into resentment or channeling it into understanding, that's the part that actually shapes you.

Bitterness feels protective in the moment. It keeps people at a distance so they can't hurt you the way that experience did. Compassion takes more courage. It means staying open after you already know how much it can cost.

Neither choice happens automatically. Your mind has to actively decide, sometimes daily, which version of the story it wants to keep telling.

You don't get to choose what happened to you. You do get to choose what it turns you into.

Pattie Mallette was 14 when alcohol and self-hatred began to take the place childhood was supposed to have. At 15, she entered a difficult relationship with Jeremy Bieber.

At 17, no longer wanting anything from life, she ended up admitted to a psychiatric facility in Canada, and there, in the darkest place, she found Christianity.

After getting out, she relapsed. She became pregnant. They urged her to have an abortion, but she refused, and since she couldn’t return home, she went to a shelter to survive with government assistance.

That was the exact point where everything began to change: she got part-time jobs, a neighbor paid for her daycare for a year, she finished high school, and earned a scholarship to study web design.

Meanwhile, her son sang on the streets for fun, never out of obligation, although each performance earned him up to $1,000. She uploaded those videos only so the family could watch him sing.

Today, Justin Bieber is one of the biggest pop stars, and Pattie donates part of her earnings as an author to the same shelters that once saved her.
