โ˜€๏ธ For all of us here at Texas MedClinic Corporate Offices, there's nothing like sunny skies to brighten the mood. But when you head outside, don't forget: your eyes need protection from the sun's rays just as much as your skin does! ๐Ÿ‘€

That's why the American Academy of Ophthalmology made July UV Safety Month! โš ๏ธ UV exposure can damage the surface of your eyes as well as your corneas and lenses. Cataracts, eye cancers, growths and even blindness can happen as a result.

Don't worry, you don't have to stay in the dark to protect yourself. Just pop on some sunglasses before you head outside! ๐Ÿ˜Ž Here are some other tips to keep those peepers safe:

โœ… Be sure to select sunglasses with a 100% UV rating.
๐ŸŽฉ Wear a wide-brimmed hat with your glasses for extra protection.
โ˜๏ธ Stay protected even when it's hazy or cloudy, which doesn't block UV rays.
๐Ÿ• Stay out of the sun when it's strongest at midday-early afternoon.
๐Ÿšซ Don't look directly at the sun!
๐Ÿ›‘ Skip the tanning bedโ€ฆit's just as bad as outdoor sunlight.

Of course, the sun can wreak havoc on your health and comfort in other ways, too. ๐Ÿฅต If sunburn, bug bites, rash, dehydration or heat exhaustion, visit us or find the location nearest to you at ๐Ÿ“https://www.texasmedclinic.com/locations/.

Happy 4th of July ๐ŸŽ† from all of us at Texas MedClinic Corporate Offices! We hope your celebration of our nation's 250th Independence Day is meaningful and joyous. Whether you're headed out of town, hangin' in the backyard or joining in community festivities, here are some tips to ensure you have a safe holiday weekend:

๐Ÿ’ง Drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen and seek out shade if you start to overheat.
๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿšค Avoid alcohol or drink in moderation and never drive a car or boat while intoxicated.
๐Ÿ‘€ Designate a sober "water watcher" to keep an eye on your party near bodies of water.
๐ŸŽ‡ Use only legal fireworks, follow directions on packaging, keep a hose and fire extinguisher nearby, and soak spent fireworks or duds in a bucket of water before throwing away. Be careful โ€” itโ€™s dry out there!
๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ‘ถ Don't allow children near firepits or fireworks (even sparklers!). ๐Ÿ”ฅ
๐Ÿฉน Keep a first aid kit and cell phone nearby for emergencies.
๐Ÿพ Keep pets inside.

With a little preparation, you can prevent mishaps from interrupting your fun. But if you do need medical help for minor burns, dehydration, bug bites ๐Ÿ› or other summertime ailments, all Texas MedClinic Urgent Care clinics are open throughout the holiday weekend to help. Happy Juneteenth National Independence Day!

On this day in 1865, enslaved Black people in Texas finally learned they had been freed more than two years earlier by the Emancipation Proclamation. The day has been a celebration of that freedom ever since, and Juneteenth finally became a federal holiday in 2021.

Ask any American what sets the United States apart and chances are, theyโ€™ll say โ€œFreedom!โ€ Thatโ€™s why here at Texas MedClinic Corporate Offices, weโ€™re thrilled to recognize Juneteenth as an important milestone in the fight for freedom and equality for all Americans.

We wish our patients, team members and communities a joyous and meaningful Juneteenth!

โ˜€๏ธ Living with asthma? 5 ways to protect your lungs this summer.

Heat, humidity, pollen and smoke can all trigger symptoms, but that doesn't mean you have to sit summer out. Here's how to stay active and comfortable:

โœ… Check conditions before you head out. Monitor local air quality and pollen counts before outdoor activities. On high-pollution or high-pollen days, consider limiting time outside.
โœ… Time your activities wisely. Early morning and later evening tend to have lower temperatures and pollution levels โ€” better conditions for exercise and outdoor fun.
โœ… Always bring your inhaler. A rescue inhaler is a non-negotiable for outdoor activities. If you have a child with asthma, make sure it goes with them to camps, practices and games too.
โœ… Stay hydrated and take breaks. Water helps keep your airways hydrated and reduces irritation. If you feel short of breath or fatigued, move to shade and rest until symptoms ease.
โœ… Minimize exposure to common triggers. Avoid sitting near grill or campfire smoke, wear sunglasses to reduce pollen exposure, and shower and change clothes after time outside.

If symptoms become hard to control with your inhaler, don't wait it out. Texas MedClinic Corporate Offices treats asthma and reactive airway flare-ups, allergic reactions and breathing difficulties with no appointment needed.
