The event itself was traumatic, but the real damage came from going through it alone. From nobody noticing you were struggling. From having to carry it in silence because asking for help felt impossible or unsafe. From the complete absence of someone stepping in to say "I see you, I'm here, you don't have to do this by yourself."
That's what creates complex trauma, not just the thing that happened, but the lack of support around it. The wound is the absence of being seen, soothed, and safe when it counted most. You needed someone to validate your pain, to hold space for your feelings, to make you feel less alone. And when that didn't happen, the trauma embedded itself deeper because you had to survive it and the abandonment simultaneously.
