🕊️One of the most vulnerable points in life is right before death.

📃During serious illness, families are often navigating multiple providers, changing medical information, emotional stress, and difficult decisions all at once.

PROTECTING PATIENTS AND FAMILIES AT END OF LIFE means
✔️Supporting informed decision-making
✔️Reducing confusion and fragmented care
✔️Helping align treatment with personal goals
✔️Creating space for important conversations before a crisis
✔️Ensuring no one carries the weight alone

At the end of life, people deserve more than medical treatment. They deserve care that listens, explains, protects, and stays present through what comes next.

Last call to RSVP! The San Diego County Council on Aging is hosting their next membership meeting this Thursday, June 4, and our very own Dr. Bob Uslander will be presenting.

His talk, "Clarity Changes Everything: What Matters Most When It Matters Most," is a conversation about what it really means to be supported through the end of life, on your own terms, with people who know the way.

Breakfast and networking start at 8:15am at Canyon Villas, 4282 Balboa Ave, San Diego. RSVP to (619) 957-0610 or [email protected].

Grief doesn’t end with the funeral.

It changes shape. It shows up in quiet moments. It can feel heavier weeks—or even months—later.

There’s no timeline for grief.
And there’s no “right” way to move through it.

But support matters.

During Mental Health Month, it’s worth remembering that care doesn’t stop at death. After-loss support can help people process what’s happened, make sense of what they’re feeling, and find steady ground again.

Not to rush grief.
Not to fix it.
Just to make sure no one has to carry it alone.

People often ask what “hospice care” actually means.

❌It doesn’t mean more treatment.

💕It means more attention.
⌛More time to ask questions.
🔁More responsiveness when something changes.
🤝More coordination so things don’t fall through the cracks.

🏠It means care that comes to you—at home.
⚕️Care that is physician-led, personalized, and steady.

A good death isn’t about perfection.
✔️But the right support can make it more comfortable.
✔️More understood.
✔️More aligned with what matters to the person and their family.

📍That’s what this kind of care is designed to do.

“We’re going to stop treatment.”

For many families, those words can feel like giving up.
But it’s not.

It’s a shift.
⬅️Away from more interventions, more side effects, more time in medical settings.
➡️And toward comfort, clarity, and being present for what matters most.

Choosing to stop aggressive treatment is a decision made with intention.
It’s about aligning care with the person, not just the illness.

🩺In-home, physician-led support can help guide these decisions.
So families understand what’s changing, what to expect, and how to move forward.
With active care, just focused differently.

Less communication. More sleep. Changes in breathing.

These are the physical signs many people recognize at the end-of-life. But there’s another layer that matters just as much: emotional health. 💜

Emotional support isn’t extra. It’s essential.

During Mental Health Month, it’s a reminder: how we support THE EMOTIONAL SIDE OF END-OF-LIFE matters. 🫂

Last week, we were proud to attend the 2026 Visionary Luncheon & Auction hosted by Alzheimer's San Diego, an afternoon honoring the work being done to support local families living with dementia.

This year's event celebrated Ann Owens as the 2026 Visionary of the Year. At Alzheimer's San Diego, 100% of every dollar raised stays in San Diego County, supporting free programs and services for the more than 25,000 people they serve each year.

As a care team that walks alongside people through serious illness, we know how much it matters to have the right support from people who understand what you're facing. That's exactly what Alzheimer's San Diego delivers.

End-of-life care is deeply personal. It deserves clarity, protection, and respect.

We’re encouraged to see leadership from Senator Catherine Blakespear as her latest legislation to strengthen end-of-life care protections moves forward.

These policies matter. They help ensure that individuals and families have:
• Clear information when decisions feel overwhelming
• Support that aligns with their values and wishes
• Care that protects dignity, not just extends time

We’ve had the privilege of working alongside Senator Blakespear and her team over the years, through panels, conversations, and shared commitment to improving how we care for people at the end of life.

This is the kind of work that makes a difference.

Because how we die—and how we are supported in that time—matters.
