We talk about work-life balance like it’s a switch — on, off. There’s truth in that; I need small rituals to close work and open it back up again, amidst a day full of adventures.
Some emergencies I’d rather guide myself through than hand off to a covering doctor — not because it’s required of me, but because that continuity matters to me and to the people I care for. So I’m never fully “off.” And I’ve stopped seeing that as a problem to fix.
As long as I’m gaining strength from the work itself, and fulfilled by my surroundings without a 9-5 job holding me down — what could be better? That’s the real question I keep coming back to. Not “how do I switch off,” but “am I still gaining strength, or just quietly enduring?” Right now, on this trail, in this Shinrin Yoku moment — the answer is strength. 🌲
