Our theme for June is CURATE.

It was chosen by our Orange County chapter in California, illustrated by Fred Villa, and is presented by Adobe.

Our Orange County chapter had this to say about the significance of this month’s theme:

“To us, curate is about perspective. In a world overflowing with information, content, ideas, and tools, the ability to curate—to choose, shape, and sequence—has become more powerful than simply knowing or creating. It’s no longer just about the outcome, but about crafting a thoughtful and meaningful experience that reflects a deeper creative vision.”

“You can curate your wardrobe, the perfect playlist, and your instagram grid. But every creative act is an exercise in curation. The writer picks which sentence stays and which gets cut. The designer chooses the ideal font out of thousands available. The photographer frames the right shot at the right time.

But curation is not just selection. It’s about attention. What do you let in? What do you choose to care about? Each of us is a curator of our own inner museum: a gallery of the influences we honor and the collection of ideas we pursue.

We live in a time of overwhelming abundance. Instead of obsessing over what looks good together, contemplate why your choices belong together. Distill your taste into a point of view that is uniquely yours. Then ruthlessly express it in your work and how you live your life.” -CM HQ

Last month’s talk took us into the wild journey of centering sustainable restaurantship and we loved having Jessica and Davin Waite as our co-speakers. Thank you for bringing us in to your non linear adventure that was guided by the decisiveness to do good by and for the people, run sustainable spaces and most of all keep returning to your why.

Thank you to the library for having us, we loved hearing about your programming and the fantastic show on the 9th floor at the Judith Harris Gallery, Third Spaces. We loved having longtime CreativeMorning supporter Richard Ibarra share his new book and the tastiness brought by Ally’s chicken was such a tasty way to start the day. Our gorgeous postcards were by local painter Nikko Mueller and printer by Hudson Printers.

So much fun seeing all of you from near and far at this talk. Having our speakers supported by not only our regular community but also by Oceanside locals was so fun! Thank you to those that braved the stage for our thirty second pitches and don’t forget to fill out the form in our bio to apply for this month’s talk.

Thank you to our amazing team and dedicated volunteers! We make this happen as a community for community ❤️

We’re thrilled to bring you Jessica + Davin Waite for this month’s talk on CREATE!

Jessica is a restaurateur, non-profit leader and local food advocate with a MBA from Pepperdine University and a punk rock ethos. As an entrepreneur and eco-warrior, she has long been a local food advocate with an urgency instilled within her from a young age to make a lasting impact on the planet and her community.
The Plot is an extension of Jessica’s sustainability projects which she has pursued with Davin for over thirteen years. The Plot was awarded Best New Restaurant in 2020 by SD Magazine and named one of the Best New Restaurants in the US by The Vegetarian Times in 2021.
Jessica co-founded and serves as Treasurer of The Plot Garden Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting healthy and resilient communities through urban food production, education, and innovation.
Jessica is the President of Berry Good Food Foundation, a local non-profit that advances healthy, integrated food systems by educating, connecting, and supporting food producers and consumers in San Diego County and Baja California. Jessica has studied Circular Economy and Sustainable Business Practices at Cambridge Judge Business School, and aims to build businesses that will benefit all stakeholders; partners, customers and the environment.

A local legend in the sustainable food community, Chef Davin Waite is a classically trained sushi chef who thrives on pushing boundaries with creative uses for ingredients that deliver exciting flavors while minimizing food waste and celebrating San Diego proteins and produce. Waite shares his advocacy by teaching sustainable cooking techniques to both kids and adults, and as a spokesperson on panels and in media about underutilized species and sourcing from local farmers. His Oceanside restaurant Wrench & Rodent Seabasstropub is beloved for its innovative omakase, he recently expanded his focus into plant-based cuisine with the opening of The Plot, and he has partnered on the local seafood concept Shootz Fish x Beer. Waite has recently been honored by the CA Travel Association with its 2022 Sustainability Advocate Award.

The theme for May is CREATE. It was chosen in collaboration with our global partner Adobe and illustrated by Ana Grigorovici.

This marks the first time we have ever worked with a global partner to select a monthly theme. Because at CreativeMornings, we believe everyone is creative—and Adobe couldn’t agree more. Together, we’re bringing you the motivation and accountability you need to bring your ideas to life.
For our theme CREATE, we’re throwing a month-long celebration of YOUR passion projects!
We understand the challenges of creating something you love. From fitting it into your busy life to fighting off imposter syndrome; the struggle is real. And one of the biggest hurdles is a lack of accountability. So, let’s come together and support one another!
What if we gave our personal creative projects a collective deadline?
Release Day on May 29th is when we all finally share that special thing we’ve been working on. It’s a motivating moment to declare, “here it is!” No matter how imperfect or polished it may be.
We’ve teamed up with Creative Quests on an entire month of practical tips and accountability sessions leading up to Release Day. All culminating in an online gallery showcasing your creations! Check out everything we’ve got planned for you!
Let’s share your creativity with the world!
Make a commitment to yourself and pledge to share your personal project on Release Day. We’re here to support you! We can’t wait to see what you create!
