The Carers is a peer wellness group for Pan Asian caregivers, community leaders, organizers, and helping professionals in the diaspora wanting to tend to our own needs and plant roots in a supportive community that nourishes us. We welcome those of us who carry visible or invisible labor for our families and communities. The group will incorporate Expressive Arts, somatic and traditional healing, and open sharing.

I’ll be participating in the Make-A-Wish America Walk for Wishes this Saturday in honor of the sweetest child I used to work with, so this month’s Solidarity Space will take place on Sunday, August 16th: https://tinyurl.com/CareContinued

We will continue to gather online monthly on the 3rd Saturday to stay connected, sustain momentum, and take coordinated action in support of communities facing displacement and colonial violence.

Externalizing Our Needs 🐚 Final 2 sessions of The Carers 🫂

Together, we will identify ways to recognize and prioritize our needs and ask for what we want.

Join us bi-weekly on Tuesday @ 5 - 6 pm Pacific to exhale and let go of what you’ve been holding on to while taking in communal nourishment to sustain you.

You must be 18+ to join this group. Sign up for all groups here: luma.com/amhp-thecarers

Earlier this week, I had a chance to meet Joe Montana and hear him talk about leadership. 4 Super Bowl wins for the 49ers and named MVP 3x, he was known for being calm under pressure and continues to be humble and kind.

I was born and raised in San Francisco, and he was someone my whole family looked up to. We live in a moment when so many lead with fear. It was a great reminder that you can care about people, lead with heart, no ego, and still win.

Final share for South Asian Heritage Month is a conversation with Narika on domestic violence and mental health in South Asian communities.

I learned a lot about the various types of domestic violence, signs someone may need help, and types of support available. In the Bay Area, Narika and SF Asian Women's Shelter’s offer free and confidential support for survivors with considerations for their culture and language.

In honor of South Asian Heritage Month, I’m sharing the fourth episode of the South Asian Occupational Therapy Experience, which discusses the lived experience of children of immigrants. I’m going to leave the episode description intact below, as not much has changed- just more acts of racialized violence.

This episode was recorded in March (2021), before the most recent racialized violence and mass murders occurred. This episode was not intentionally delayed; life just got in the way. We got into many critical conversations around racism, some that weren’t recorded, including being targeted for violent hate crimes. Communities of color are mourning and have been in pain for a long time despite constantly working to survive and thrive. We hope you hear our stories and are inspired to consider culture and lived experience in the care you offer.

You already know you need to do the dishes. Return the texts. Finish the project. Knowing isn’t the problem. Starting is.

To Do-ish breaks the task down, stays with you while you work, and guides you to reset when you need it. No streaks. No scores. No shame.

Built by an occupational therapist. Informed by lived experience.

In beta.

In honor of South Asian Heritage Month, I’m sharing the second episode of the South Asian Occupational Therapy Experience exploring dating and marriage in the South Asian cultural context with considerations for clinicians.

We recorded this back when Indian Matchmaking came out and I had long hair 😂, but our conversation is still relevant. I heard some students were inspired to do their grad research on this topic after this episode, though it wasn’t shared with me.
