In this week’s Expert’s Corner, Dr. Manon Moreno (Founder of DBT Madrid) breaks down exactly why “thinking your way out of it” doesn’t work when emotional intensity peaks. The part of your brain that relies on reasoning literally goes offline.

So, what actually works? You have to bypass the brain and shift your body chemistry directly. 🧬

Enter the T.I.P.P. skill:
🧊 T - Temperature: Cold water on the face to trigger the dive response.
🏃‍♀️ I - Intense Exercise: 5-10 minutes to burn off stress hormones.
😮‍💨 P - Paced Breathing: Slowing down to 5-6 breaths per minute.
🧘‍♀️ P - Paired Muscle Relaxation: Tensing and releasing muscle groups.

The goal of these Distress Tolerance skills isn’t to fix the problem or even to feel good. It’s simply to survive the moment without making it worse, so your reasoning skills can come back online.
