To say that I remember you and miss you is an understatement. You are in everything I do. Right from my freezer to my closet, from the million utensils to the tablecloth, cushions and the hundred voice notes of recipes on my phone..my life is and always will be filled with your presence, your ideas, your memories, your voice.
Thank you for being so remarkable, so inspiring, so extraordinary. Always. Today is the day when the world got you and became a much brighter place❤️🎂🥳

Even if we had met through another way, I would still choose you. All the qualities which seem so basic, so simple, are surprisingly rare to find. Yet I found them all in you. If anyone asked me to describe you in one word I really couldn’t. There are so many things that stand out. Your thoughtfulness, empathy, kindness, honesty. Your sense of responsibility and loyalty..your genuine warmth, humor and smartness.

There may be things I complain about and try to change, and yet there’s no one else I could be brutally honest with or moody and quiet. Many things I have come to learn and become better at because of your perseverance and support.

It’s not any anniversary or husband’s day today, just some reflection and gratitude. ❤️

You are truly the light of my life. With you every moment becomes brighter and more beautiful. Your inherent joy brings all those around you so much happiness. It is a gift to be your mother and I hope I can nurture you in a way that never dims your light.

It’s in the littlest of things

When I’m cutting bhindi I remember how you tell me to check if it’s spoilt as worms could get sliced in the way we cut it. When I’m making idly I remember how perfect yours look. Or how you tell me to cook tindora but it never tastes like how you make it. When I chop cabbage I will strive to cut it as neatly and efficiently as you do, and you will always be a lingering presence, a guiding light and a force I call upon, whenever I step into the kitchen.

As I was cutting cabbage today I wondered what you would say-was it thin enough? Not the right angle? I could use a better knife? And the same happens when I clean-was I quick enough? Efficient enough? Did I use my time effectively to multitask and get things done?

Folding jeans will never be the same, after you’ve repeatedly told me the right way to do it.

Your voice reminding me to be more tolerant always echoes, every now and then, as I begin to lose my patience or feel resentful.
I don’t worry so much now if you approve or not, if you would feel proud of me or not, because I know how much you love me. And that love, that fierce love is the greatest thing there is.

The day you two decided to be together,
Was when the distant possibility of me arose.
I couldn’t be more grateful and delighted
To have you as my parents
To be of the same make;
To belong to you
And to be cherished by you.
I feel like the luckiest person
In the whole wide world
To have known a love like yours
And to have you both as mine.

To see you together as one
And to see you each in your own light
Has revealed to me
How it is both destiny and your efforts
To be the best versions of yourselves
For each other and for me.

What is a parent after all?
It is the same heart
That shines, protects, nurtures and gives,
The very same heart
That beats as me.

Why is it so frustrating when another doesn’t reciprocate the way we would like them to? Even if we try not to expect anything from them. Why does it hurt/bother? I have often found that it helps to be open to different ways of expression as each one’s methods are different as well as their conditioning and circumstances. We must be mindful and we must make our peace with the way others are. Not by being indifferent or resigned, but by letting go of that part of us which makes us petty, clingy or egoistic. By putting the other’s needs and heart over and above our expectations of how we want a relationship/person to behave.

What if I wasn’t that person?
Whom I believe myself to be
With all my quirks and skills,
With what I have projected
For you to see.
What if I wasn’t that person?
Even if just for a moment.
Not all the hullabaloo
About losing and finding myself
Just a simple question
About what I am
And what has changed in all these years
In the image that I have about me?
What lies ahead
No one can truly ever know
And yet we create events and phases
With much fervour and conviction.
What would remain
If we emptied ourselves
Of all the beliefs we cherish
And all our plans for the future?
What would we be left with?
Or are we too afraid of that possibility?

The many ways in which I’m touched by love;
Even though I keep telling myself otherwise.
I don’t know whom I love the most
Because it feels as if all the people I love
Have merged into one nameless, formless thing;
Or maybe just appear in different ways
But are the same heart.

I carry a heart full of stories and secrets;
A kaleidoscope of faces, voices, regrets.
Questions unanswered, among other things
And the reality of suffering, each day brings.
Unshed tears and muffled cries,
Some bitter truths and some lies.
The heart remembers
The unkept promises and rejections,
It's deaths are many, falling apart in fractions.
At every beat, someone out there slips away,
A thousand lifetimes can pass by waiting in darkness for a single ray.
So many people held in and around
So many pieces out there, yet to be found.
Grief seems inseparable from this heart,
I wonder whence it came, how did it start?
Some of it seems familiar, some alien.
Some things fill the heart while some make it barren.
How deep is my love?
Much more than your trust.
I believe we all are just parts of a shared heart.

If you really look
Into my eyes
You will see
How I hold our story.
What is held in the heart
Is often left unsaid
For fear of being denied
As the other cannot yet see
What only seems inevitable.
What is this constant push and pull?
What am I moving towards or away from?
All just thoughts in the mind
Unexpressed, unexamined feelings.
You sometimes remind me
That perhaps, I am only dreaming.
