Why Self Belonging?
There’s so many words I’ve encountered over the years as a reader and writer, but self belonging as a concept, and a compass, was what finally centred me in my own healing, creativity, and devotion to a path I needed to pave for myself because what I needed didn’t exist *out there*.
There’s many influences gathered together in this term that I landed on - from speakers, writers, researchers - who speak about belonging to and with yourself. They touch on it, fly with it, skim their fingers lovingly over it as they share their own devoted gifts on other topics. I’ll share some of my favourite quotes another time!
I wanted to offer my self, my loves, the world a direction on the other side of self-abandonment, self-rejection, self-protection. Because not having those things is not the same as having somewhere to go, be and delight in who you are. To anchor into self instead of other for safety and definition, often for the first time, and trust that she can be there and welcome your return every single time.
I chose Studio (Studium - devotion) because it’s a practice. It’s not a static, stoic unmoving self. Self belonging a dynamic path we learn to navigate on as we move through living our life (not just protecting from it). It’s about knowing how to come back when we’ve got too far away from ourselves while also expanding the edges of what is possible.
I’m so excited for all the possibilities to come and to share with you!
