The vagus nerve is one of 12 cranial nerves. All 12 cranial nerves travel out of the brain down into the brainstem. From there they go to the organs and systems they are designed to serve. The vagus nerve is cranial nerve 10 and it serves every primary system and organ in the greater body. The cardiovascular system, respiratory system, digestive system, circulatory system and eliminatory system are innervated by the vagus nerve. The spleen, gall bladder, pancreas, bladder, liver and kidneys are innervated by this incredible nerve. Much communication travels from the lower body organs and systems up to the brain. And there's more. It is the primary driver of a strong powerful immune system. When I teach about living in growth and repair this is what I'm talking about. Living in the growth and repair, rest and digest side of the nervous system the vagus nerve can do it's huge job powerfully. It has a green light to go. Systems and organs are dynamically alive and functioning. We recover and stay well in this window of the nervous system. Living chronically in emergency or survival is the opposite. Living in emergency and survival chronically will lead to exhaustion, pain, illness and deep unhappiness. Dr. Joe Dispenza has taught me many times that even our gene expression will be affected if we live in emergency and survival chronically. There are no resources available internally to get well, to stay well, to regenerate and live in high beautiful states of gratitude, joy...even bliss. There is great disorder and dysfunction in organ and system function when we live chronically in emergency and survival.
