🎂 A birthday cake is something many of us never think twice about. But for someone who has experienced homelessness, a birthday can be just another reminder of what’s been lost.

At Second Heart Homes, our mission is to revive the dignity of homeless adults with mental illnesses through housing, support, and love. Every birthday, our residents receive a cake, and we ask them to share their birthday wisdom.

Big things are happening at Second Heart Homes!

Our Sarasota nonprofit now operates 14 homes serving 86 formerly homeless men and women, and we're growing our team to grow our impact.

We're thrilled to welcome five new board members bringing deep expertise in business, finance, law, technology, and philanthropy: Paul Zak, Matthew Straeb, Dionysios Skaliotis, Norman Vaughan-Birch, and Veronica Brandon Miller.

We've also added Bri Schuler as our new Annual Fund & Growth Manager, along with new property management and case management staff, strengthening our three core pillars: housing, supportive case management, and, of course, love 🏡

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we've officially reached our goal for the Flanzer Trust Matching Program!

To everyone who gave, and to the Louis & Gloria Flanzer Philanthropic Trust for making this incredible program possible, thank you. Your generosity is helping provide stable housing, compassionate support, and love for adults overcoming homelessness and mental illnesses.

While the matching funds have been fully utilized, the need continues. Every gift still helps provide housing, 365-day care management, and the support our residents need to build brighter futures.

The match ended. The mission didn't.

Big milestone alert! Please join us in celebrating Charles, who just got his very own car!

This isn’t just a set of wheels. It’s independence. Charles works as a landscaper and maintenance support team member at One Stop Housing, and now he can get himself to and from work with ease, on his own schedule and on his own terms.

We’re so proud of the dedication Charles brings to his job every day, and we couldn’t be happier to see him reach this exciting step forward. Here’s to the road ahead, Charles! 💜

Birthday wisdom from Tina - our amazing resident

Today is my birthday and what you can’t see,

Is where I was before Second Heart saved me.

I bounced all around never feeling I belonged ,

Disconnected & scared of doing something wrong.

That would put me back to where I once was,

Alone, homeless, addicted and what that does.

I came into recovery still searching everywhere,

For real love & support a family that really cares.

My family lives really far, I don’t hear too much..

Most prefer the distance and being out of touch.

My mental health was crippling me and I was becoming scared,

I felt so alone and really had to go somewhere..

I felt so lost in becoming someone I’m proud of,

The Security of having a forever home made of love.

Found that here at Second heart homes so I thank you.,

For lovingly accepting all that I’m trying so hard to do.

Finding myself as I become a better version everyday.,

Giving me safety in a world that can scare you away..

But God brought me here and blessings upon blessings..

Keep coming and I’m no longer second-guessing..

Thank you, 2nd Heart homes for a birthday I don’t want to forget..

And for saving me from homelessness and regret!

Happy birthday to me! More great years to come!
