πŸ’™ Redefining Strength During Men's Mental Health Month πŸ’™

Society often tells men to "man up," "push through," or "keep it together."

But what if strength looked like:

βœ”οΈ Talking about your feelings
βœ”οΈ Asking for help when life feels overwhelming
βœ”οΈ Setting healthy boundaries
βœ”οΈ Taking care of your mental and emotional well-being
βœ”οΈ Supporting other men in their journey

Mental health challenges don't discriminate. Men of all ages can experience anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and loneliness.

This month, let's challenge outdated ideas and create space for open conversations about mental health.

πŸ’™ Strong men ask for support. Strong men talk about mental health. Strong men take care of themselves.

If you're struggling, know that help is available and you don't have to face it alone.

πŸ’œ PTSD Awareness Month: You Don't Have to Carry It Alone πŸ’œ

Some wounds are invisible.

The smile someone wears, the joke they tell, or the way they show up every day doesn't always reveal the battles they're fighting inside. Many people living with PTSD are working incredibly hard just to make it through the day.

If you know someone with PTSD:
🀍 Be patient.
🀍 Listen without trying to "fix" them.
🀍 Believe their experience, even if you don't fully understand it.
🀍 Offer support without judgment.
🀍 Remind them they don't have to face it alone.

And if you are living with PTSD, please remember this:

Your trauma does not define you.
Your healing does not have a deadline.
Your setbacks do not erase your progress.

Every time you choose to keep going, you're demonstrating incredible strength.

This PTSD Awareness Month, let's create a world where people feel safe to ask for help, share their stories, and heal at their own pace.

πŸ’œ Healing isn't about forgetting what happenedβ€”it's about finding hope, strength, and peace beyond it.

πŸ’œ June is PTSD Awareness Month πŸ’œ

When people hear Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), they often think of a single traumatic event. But PTSD can develop after many different experiences, including military service, abuse, accidents, natural disasters, medical trauma, violence, or the sudden loss of a loved one.

PTSD isn't a sign of weaknessβ€”it's a response to experiencing something overwhelming.

Some signs may include:
πŸ¦‹ Intrusive memories or flashbacks
πŸ¦‹ Avoiding certain places or situations
πŸ¦‹ Feeling constantly on edge or easily startled
πŸ¦‹ Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
πŸ¦‹ Feelings of guilt, fear, or emotional numbness

The good news? Healing is possible. With support, therapy, and healthy coping strategies, many people learn to manage their symptoms and reclaim their lives.

This PTSD Awareness Month, let's replace judgment with compassion, stigma with understanding, and silence with conversation.

πŸ’œ You are not defined by what happened to you. Your story is still being written, and hope is always possible.

πŸ’™ Men's Mental Health Matters πŸ’™

Many men are taught to be strong, stay tough, and handle challenges on their own. But true strength isn't about carrying everything aloneβ€”it's about recognizing when support is needed.

πŸ“Š Men are often less likely to seek mental health support, yet they experience stress, anxiety, depression, grief, and burnout just like anyone else.

This Men's Mental Health Month, let's help break the stigma by encouraging:
βœ”οΈ Honest conversations
βœ”οΈ Emotional awareness
βœ”οΈ Seeking support when needed
βœ”οΈ Checking in on friends, family, and coworkers

A simple "How are you really doing?" can make a meaningful difference.

πŸ’™ You don't have to struggle in silence. Support is available, and reaching out is a sign of courageβ€”not weakness.

πŸ’š Monday Mental Health Fact Check πŸ’š

Therapy Myths vs. Facts

πŸ”Ή Myth: Therapy is only for people in crisis.
βœ… Fact: Therapy can help with everyday stress, personal growth, relationships, life transitions, and building healthy coping skills.

πŸ”Ή Myth: Therapists tell you what to do.
βœ… Fact: Therapists help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and options so you can make decisions that feel right for you.

πŸ”Ή Myth: You have to have all the right words.
βœ… Fact: It's okay to say, "I don't know where to start." Therapy is a space to figure things out together.

πŸ”Ή Myth: Progress in therapy is always linear.
βœ… Fact: Growth often comes with ups, downs, and setbacks. Every step forward counts.

πŸ”Ή Myth: Self-care and therapy are the same thing.
βœ… Fact: Self-care is important, but therapy provides professional support, tools, and guidance tailored to your needs.

πŸ’š Monday Reminder: Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Every small step matters.

Happy Friday!

As the week comes to a close, take a moment to recognize everything you made it through β€” even the parts no one else saw. Mental health isn’t about being positive all the time. It’s about giving yourself grace, rest, support, and space to grow.

This weekend, try to:
✨ Slow down
✨ Check in with yourself
✨ Spend time with people who recharge you
✨ Celebrate even the small wins

You deserve peace, healing, and good days too. πŸ’š

River Valley is excited to introduce Kiki Burdgorf and her licensed therapy dog, Chester!

Kiki creates a warm, affirming, and trauma-informed space where individuals, couples, and families can show up authentically and reconnect with what matters most. With experience supporting clients through anxiety, depression, grief, infertility, pregnancy loss, trauma, burnout, and life transitions, Kiki believes therapy is not about fixing what’s broken, but nurturing growth, healing, and wellness.

Joining Kiki on select days is Chester, her gentle and extroverted Shetland Sheepdog therapy dog. Certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, Chester offers comforting companionship during therapy sessions and loves connecting with clients of all ages. Whether it’s a calming presence, a friendly greeting, or a well-earned belly rub, Chester helps create a supportive and welcoming therapeutic environment.

Chester is available to join therapy sessions with Kiki during select days and hours.

We are thrilled to have Kiki and Chester as part of the River Valley team!
