Calling all golfers!

The annual Tussey Mountain Golf Tournament is still happening THIS Sunday, August 16th, at Down River Golf Course in Everett. This year, the tournament will benefit our Student Empowerment of Mental Health Awareness Team!

We will be in the main gym at the high school from 1-3 pm. We will be having kids crafts, coloring pages, refreshments, and a visit from Santa.

Friday, the SEMHA Team travelled over to State College to attend the “Train the Trainer” Conference held by the Jana Marie Foundation. SEMHA Members learned lessons in leadership, communication, and team bonding.

Even though we experienced a “little” bit of bussing issues, the Raising Cane’s afterwards was definitely worth it!!

Wednesday evening, Kaydyn and Barrett had the opportunity to speak at the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony. The Tussey Mountain NHS is a group dedicated to serving their communities and school, making both a better place for their peers and neighbors. NHS students are all driven by the same four principles: leadership, service, character, and scholarship.

This moment was extra special as many of our members are also NHS members and the SEMHA Team started out as Kaydyn and Barrett’s Individual Projects. The evening was very nostalgic as we looked back at how far our team has come in just the past year and how much further we plan to go in our future! 💙💛

Yesterday, some of our members traveled over to the Elementary School to teach a very impactful lesson on kindness, inclusivity, and anger and stress management.

We discussed how we can be KIND to teachers: staying respectful, keeping honest, and always doing your best work.

We discussed how we can be KIND to others: giving each other compliments, including those who may be sitting alone or have no one else to talk to, and lifting each other up.

Finally, and maybe most importantly, we discussed how to be KIND to ourselves: picking up new hobbies, learning how and when to take a moment to ourselves, and controlling our stresses and anger.

We ended each lesson by allowing each kid to write and decorate a compliment card to someone else in their class!

This trip was so fun and left a resounding impact not only on the kids, but on our team too!! Always remember, “Kindness is a kite string. Let it out..See spirits lift!” -Michelle Schaub

Our team President, Barrett Brode, congratulated the 10th grade fall class with their certificates on Teen Mental Health First Aid🩵

Week are so very proud of each and every one of you and we can’t wait to see the change this makes!
