The abundance of plants still amazes me. One plant’s seeds from last year turned into a field of Tulsi this year ~ now I’m saving these seeds for next year~ infinite Tulsi🌿🫧

A visual of how much essential oil is typically yielded in a small batch distillation. It’s not much! But the hydrosol is efficiently abundant! I am loving seeing first hand how differently each plant expresses in the distillation process. This batch was very much overtaken by the lemongrass in scent, which I actually love💅🏽 the tulsi was needing to be harvested & it was a nice experience to christen this new little still with both of them together! 🫧

Mistletoe🤎 did you know mistletoe is a parasite 🦠 & can eventually cause the deaths of their beloved tree hosts! They’re typically formed from birds dropping their seeds onto the tree.

But they’re not all bad because they support other creatures in the habitat like birds, deer, elk, & squirrels via their late fall berries when much to forage is scarce.

A few species of hairstreak butterflies also lay their eggs upon mistletoe leaves, and the caterpillars eat these leaves when they hatch🐛Honeybees & butterflies also feed on the nectar of mistletoe, thus helping our pollinators🐝🍯🦋

Mistletoe was utilized decoratively throughout early Christianity and the Middle ages as an emblem of fertility & vitality🌿

The act of kissing under the mistletoe was a Christmas tradition beginning in England in the 1700’s & still continues today!

They always remind me of ornaments the way they decorate the trees in big globes of their leaves. 🍂 keep your eyes peeled for the mistletoe!🏹

Sleepy spray with magnesium chloride brine🌟
Bc topical magnesium is actually very effective & a great way to absorb it! Magnesium is one of those special minerals I think we all need a little more woven into our bodies any way we can get it🎗️

Rose hips!💗🥀
Vitamin C & antioxidant rich, perfect for this season🌟 all varieties of rose hips are edible, even cultivated ones, although make sure any source is grown organically. These are wild, small & cute, but still have some plumpness to them- but if you can find the big juicy ones, those are the best!
There are a ton of recipes online for rose hip syrup, jams, beverages, & oxymels, so ill let y’all implore that but I will say, they have some irritating little hairs on the inside that you do want to strain out before consuming & the longer they’re on the plant the sweeter they get so don’t be afraid of the wrinkly ones! 🥀

Did you know this process is called “Garbling”?! 🤭
To Garble herbs is to remove the parts you want from the parts you don’t want. Here I am garbling elderberries (fresh & frozen) from their stems!
I made a personal batch of elderberry syrup & a hibiscus elderberry jam 🥲 both were ❤️‍🔥🫐
