Today was a wonderful day in Scottsdale!
We celebrated caregiver Cali’s birthday and enjoyed fun Friday therapy games with our residents, including Tower Stack and Blackjack. These simple shared experiences help restore a sense of normalcy for our TBI and SCI patients while also creating meaningful opportunities for them to give back and connect with others.

Immersive community experiences help our clients at Neuro RehabCare of Kansas City stay engaged, connected, and independent.

At Park Lanes, clients, staff, and family shared lanes for bowling, lunch, and cheers—practicing mobility, encouraging one another, and enjoying every strike together.

At the planetarium and Science City, Apple AirPods with translation made the show accessible for Spanish-speaking clients, while interactive exhibits invited exploration, peer support, and confident movement through busy spaces.

These purposeful outings bring laughter, skill-building, and meaningful participation—reminding families that their loved ones are living fully with us.

We’re so proud of Matt, who recently took part in a Community Reintegration therapy session at the Penske Auto Museum. Exploring classic cars became a meaningful and joyful part of his recovery journey.

These real-world experiences help rebuild confidence, cognitive skills, and independence after brain injury. Even more beautiful—they restore pure joy and a passion for living, because the things they love truly matter.

Recently at Neuro RehabCare of Kansas City, the community came together for several meaningful moments. Ryan celebrated his birthday with a haircut from Raul, followed by cake, balloons, and a card after lunch—he even cut his own piece and beamed with excitement. Caleb also received his first haircut from Raul, and Michael Minor led an engaging chair yoga class, during which he demonstrated for Max how he independently transfers into his car and loads his wheelchair.

This week also brought hands-on activity and friendship. Max and Ana replanted two plants, with Max confidently teaching Ana how to trim roots and leaves on the birds of paradise before deciding it should stay outside in the summer heat and giving it a thorough watering. He cleaned up the second plant and placed it in his room, further growing his little indoor jungle. Later, Max and Armando practiced yoga together, with Max helping keep Armando active and engaged throughout the day.

Our clients had a blast with a lively parachute activity that turned into a full-body workout and mobility session. Everyone worked together, laughing and moving as they practiced coordination and strength—Juan couldn’t stop smiling the whole time. Group activities like this bring out the fun while quietly building the physical skills we focus on every day.

They also joined a Pilates class at Studio7 with instructor Jocelyn. Jared, Kimberly, and Jose tried it for the first time and did great—Kimberly even talked with Jocelyn about finding a studio back home after discharge, and Jared pushed past his hesitation to try every move. Max, Armando, and Ryan came back for their third class, with Armando keeping everyone laughing by turning his roller into a bongo. We’re so grateful to Jocelyn for another encouraging class that builds strength, body awareness, and confidence in the best way.

Braiden’s puppy, Teddy, recently joined us at Neuro RehabCare of KC and brought everyone a nice boost of joy. Our clients always light up when Teddy visits, and many jump at the chance to pet him, walk him, and just spend a few calm, happy moments together. These little interactions do more than lift spirits—they help with emotional regulation, build social connection, and give clients a meaningful way to practice gentle care with a pet that loves them right back.

Max especially enjoyed walking Teddy while using his powered standing wheelchair. The equipment keeps him securely upright with bracing and lets him move under his own power, which supports weight-bearing, circulation, and a real sense of independence. Moments like this show how everyday experiences can strengthen both physical skills and morale in the best way.

Our clients recently enjoyed meaningful community outings that reinforce the daily therapeutic strategies we emphasize at Neuro RehabCare of KC. At the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and American Jazz Museum, Caleb skillfully navigated through crowds and exhibits, Max raced the bases with energy, Jose smiled while listening to music through headphones, and Ryan soaked up every bit of information. Kimberly and Jared further built independence by exploring at their own pace—skills we support and strengthen every day.

The group also visited the Overland Park Farmers Market, where clients practiced practical life skills through independent purchases like coffee, treats, and flowers Braiden chose for his wife, while sharing warm moments holding Perri’s son Vaughn. These experiences highlight how community engagement helps foster greater confidence, independence, and connection.

Omar has been preparing delicious meals since joining our program. Sharing dishes from his culture has been especially meaningful for him, and his motivation in the kitchen has been wonderful to see. One of the highlights for our team is tasting his creations—here he is making homemade chili oil.
This activity supports fine motor skills, sequencing, safety awareness, and meaningful engagement in daily living tasks, all key elements of neuro rehabilitation.

We are celebrating Randy’s graduation from Neuro RehabCare KC!

He was so happy to learn he could return to his hometown—something he has wanted for some time so he can be closer to family and friends. Randy has a big heart and will be deeply missed by everyone at NRC.
He was always the one taking out the trash, breaking down cardboard, and marking his calendar for the monthly water jug pickups so he could set them outside.

He waited for Armando each morning to crush the cans near his room, loved helping anyone in a wheelchair or power chair, and made it part of his routine to get coffee for Lawrence and Armando.

We wish him the very best in this next chapter. His siblings are excited to have him closer, his sister plans to have him over more for yard work, and he already has a part-time trash pickup job lined up in his hometown.

Congratulations, Randy!
