There are parts of hearing loss that never show up on a hearing test. They show up in everyday moments. Quiet moments.
And more people should know about them 👇
=====
1️⃣ You read lips without even thinking about it
You watch mouths. Faces. Expressions.
If someone turns their head, covers their mouth, or talks from another room, you miss the sentence. If they keep talking while walking away, you stop trying.
=====
2️⃣ You can be with family and still feel left out
You are sitting right there. Everyone is talking. Laughing.
You catch pieces, but not the whole story. You smile along, even when you did not hear the joke.
Being present but not included is a hard feeling to explain.
=====
3️⃣ The TV is always a problem
You turn the volume up to hear the dialogue. Someone says it is too loud.
You turn on captions. Now you are reading the show instead of watching it.
Background music makes it worse.
=====
4️⃣ Silence is not actually silent
For many people, quiet means calm. For others, it means ringing, buzzing, or hissing that never really goes away.
Especially at night.
=====
5️⃣ You are tired in a way people cannot see
Listening takes effort. Filling in missing words takes effort. Deciding whether to ask someone to repeat themselves takes effort.
By the end of the day, you are exhausted, even if it does not look like it.
