If you spend your life adjusting yourself to keep everyone else comfortable, you’ll eventually lose track of who you are, and drive yourself crazy trying.

Stop changing your temperature for every person who walks into the room. You cannot be everything to everyone. Healing means learning who you are, what you need, and how to stay true to both, with kindness, honesty, and healthy boundaries.

Sometimes other people need to adjust, put on a sweater, or find another room. 💛

We like to keep clothing and basic items on hand for women who come to Haven and may arrive without everything they need. Right now, we are running low on a few things and would greatly appreciate donations of:

Running/athletic shoes: Women’s sizes 7–10
Swimsuits: Sizes M–2XL
Shorts: Sizes M–2XL

New or gently used items are welcome. If you’re cleaning out a closet or have something you’d like to donate, we would be very grateful!

If you have items to donate, please email [email protected] or call us at 252-916-9179.

Thank you for helping us make sure the women who come to Haven have what they need.

Sometimes growth doesn’t feel like growth. It feels uncomfortable, unfamiliar, and a little like we’ve lost our footing.

Maybe not feeling like ourselves isn’t always a sign that something is wrong. Maybe sometimes it means the old version of us no longer fits.

Growth can be uncomfortable. Healing can be uncomfortable. Change can be uncomfortable.

But uncomfortable seasons don’t last forever, and sometimes they’re exactly where God is doing the best work in us.

Our minds can thrash too.

We replay, overthink, resist, worry, and try to control what we cannot control, believing if we think about it enough, we can somehow find our way out.

But peace rarely comes from more mental fighting. It comes through acceptance. Surrender. Trusting our Higher Power with what our minds cannot solve.

Be still. Let go. Trust that you are held.

There’s really no way around it. If we let people matter to us, they have the ability to disappoint us, leave us, misunderstand us, or break our hearts. Sometimes deeply.

And when that happens, everything in us can want to shut down. To protect ourselves. To decide we won’t ever give someone that much power again.

But the alternative is a life where no one can hurt us because no one can really reach us.

And that’s not the life we want.

Recovery teaches us that we can survive hurt without becoming hardened by it. We can feel the pain, learn from it, and still be brave enough to love again.

There is something supernatural about having the courage to keep your heart open anyway. To love without guarantees. To be hurt and still choose tenderness over hardness. To trust that God can hold our hearts even when other people don’t handle them perfectly.

You don't have to love the season you're in to believe it has purpose.

Not every chapter feels beautiful while you're living it. Some are filled with waiting, healing, and learning to begin again. But those chapters often become the foundation for everything that comes next.

There are seasons when we can't change the situation, no matter how much we wish we could. Recovery gently reminds us that our peace isn't found in controlling people or circumstances, it's found in allowing ourselves to be changed.

When we loosen our grip on what isn't ours to carry and focus instead on our own attitudes, actions, faith, and willingness, something remarkable happens.

The situation may not change... but we do. And sometimes, that's where the miracle begins.
