National Pink Flamingo Day is celebrated every year on June 23rd. It honors the iconic, kitschy plastic lawn ornament originally designed by Don Featherstone in 1957. The holiday traces its roots back to 2007 when the Mayor of Leominster, Massachusetts (hometown of the original manufacturer, Union Products) declared the date to celebrate the suburban cultural icon. Today at SERC staff dressed in pink as did some residents. I am sorry that I do not have pictures of everyone! We played Flamingo Trivia, had broiled shrimp for dinner, a party with pink and pink toned treats and we were joined by the Miss Sleepy Eye Royalty with entertainment by Chris Steffen and Chris Ames. What a wonderful day!

I am putting together a Red-White- Blue Parade for the residents at the Sleepy Eye Rehabilitation Center and Assisted Living for Wednesday Morning JULY 1st. Divine has done this for several years and I would like to bring the FUN to our residents also! Currently I have a couple of daycares participating and a member of the Miss Sleepy Eye Royalty. Resident family members are welcome to join also walking or viewing the parade. Are there any pet owners willing to dress up themselves and their pets to walk in a parade? People with Classic Cars that are red, white or blue in color willing to drive through? Any young families willing to go through the parade on trikes or bikes or wagons? Reach out to Denise at (507) 300-1235. If I do not answer leave a message and I will call you back.
