My grandmother was still alive when my father, on the left, asked the adoption agency "permission" he was denied to raise me. He was told there was something better for me because of our Native American heritage.

I may always wonder what it would have been like to be raised with her, him, and my two uncles shown here.

DID YOU KNOW THE HISTORICAL HIAWATHA was a:

🌄🏞🌅 I am working on an essay about the historical Hiawatha --- not the false Hiawatha in Longfellow's poem "Song of Hiawatha" who conveniently walks off into the sunset, tells his people to listen to the white man, and convert to their religion.
🤔🤔🤔
Instead, the real Hiawatha ended centuries of war and systemic violence by creating the Iroquois Confederacy which became a model for other Native federations.
🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲
His political theory was that unless each tribe acknowledged the shared indigeneity of the other tribes the bloodshed would never cease. Hiawatha argued that multiple peoples could have legitimate claims over the same land.
