Kairos: Doula & Education Services Elizabeth Broadaway, Doula and Childbirth Educator, here to nurture you through your best possible bi

As a doula and childbirth educator my mission is to help couples nurture this new life they are bringing into the world. My goal is to help them feel empowered in their child's birth story: helping them be informed of their choices, teaching them techniques to encourage an amazing labor, and preparing them for medical emergencies that may not have been part of their original birth plan.

It may have only been for 30 seconds but this girl will not let anything hold her back! 8 months and working so hard on sitting up! Thank you for creating something that can be used for therapy as well as play!

It’s national or world CP day....our sweet Avonlea has joined in on this adventure. She is lucky to have a big brother who daily tells her he loves her. They are already beat friends. This girl pushes herself hard and as her mommy sometimes I have to remind her it’s ok to rest. She was named after Anne of Avonlea (Green Gables) and boy does she remind me of Anne.....unique, fiesty, smart, and special to her family!

Happy October from Avonlea! This girl is so hard to get pic of these! Always moving! 🍁🍂

This girl has had a lot going on this week. Today finished out our 4 days of nonstop things. Monday was PT and OT. Tuesday-speech. Wednesday was speech and an ENT appointment which involved a scope down both nostrils and an official laryngomalcia diagnosis and possible tracheomalacia and bronchialmalacia. And today was cranial sacral work and a specialized OT to help with her tongue tie release. This girl is a rock star and giving us her thumbs but in the last pic you can truly see what this week has done to her.....exhausted! Her moms too!

I had not made a breastfeeding week post partly because it’s a little bittersweet for me but also I wasn’t sure what I wanted to say. I’m so grateful I can provide for my babies even if it’s through exclusively pumping. This is one days worth of milk from me and I’m also so blessed to have had amazing women help me feed my babies! We all have different journeys in this BF world. My wife graciously gifted me these BM earring studs today. The milk is from this time with Avonlea but the brown flecks in the one pair is some of my placenta from Tennyson. I will cherish these forever!

Being a doula whether in a sibling, birth, or postpartum capacity is always an honor. Sitting and holding space for another while they navigate a period of time only they can walk through is precious and something I never take for granted. This beautiful birth was supposed to be a time that I was helping a mom be at peace knowing her two older kids were home with her but being well taken care as she labored. Things changed a bit and I stepped into full doula mode BUT the awesome big sister that she is and what so many are capable of and don’t even know it stepped into sibling doula role so I could help her mom and oh she did an amazing job! Homebirth is a beautiful adventure and on Nov. 4th my final doula client of 2019 brought into this world a beautiful baby girl who joined her big sister and slightly bigger older brother! you are a rock star! thank you for loving your clients well!

It’s time America recognizes the need for better maternity and paternity care! Come on Nashville!! We were lucky to have 12 weeks paid leave with Tennyson for Heather....never having to touch vacation, sick or PTO days. With Avonlea we will only have 6 weeks and already having 1 child will make it just a bit more chaotic.

The 4th trimester (12 weeks) is a real recovery time for mothers and bonding time for BOTH parents. Let’s work on this!!

We wonder why we have higher rates of PPD/anxiety etc. A lot of women’s hormones are still regulating in the 1st 12 weeks and the stress of spouse or themselves having to return to work can only add to the issue!

As new companies move to Nashville, the benefits for employees are growing. Some offering 18 weeks of paternity leave.
