When caregiver-to-resident ratios are too low, residents feel it first: longer waits, missed needs, and loneliness that shouldn’t be part of care. Lanetra’s story reminds us that even one compassionate caregiver can make a difference in a home where the ratio struggles to keep up. Instead of assuming he “was fine,” she slowed down, checked in, listened to what he needed, and helped him protect his dignity.

Now that we're open, let's talk about the service families ask us about most: cognitive care.

Cognitive care at Legato Living is a philosophy that guides how our entire community operates. Structured routines that reduce anxiety, staff trained specifically in dementia and Alzheimer's care, and a setting small enough that residents are recognized, not just supervised.

If you're trying to figure out whether it's time for cognitive care for someone you love, we're happy to talk it through — no pressure, just a conversation.

New here? A lot of you found us this week, here's the short version of who we are.

Legato Living at Zion Hill is a boutique assisted living and memory care community in Spartanburg, built around one idea: care feels better when it's personal. Small enough that staff actually know residents by name, habits, and history — not just a room number.

We offer assisted living, memory care for Alzheimer's and dementia, respite stays, adult day services, and hospice support, all under one roof at 690 Zion Hill Rd. If any of that is something your family is navigating, we'd love to talk.

How can we take better care of our residents who are incontinent?

08/03/2026

When dementia affects behavior that seems “negative,” it’s often a communication attempt, not a choice. Stress, confusion, pain, overstimulation, loneliness, or unmet needs may be showing up in ways that don’t feel obvious. Learning how a person is communicating right now helps us respond with patience and consistency, creating safety and comfort instead of escalating the situation.

If we slow down and view the behavior as information, we can better meet the need underneath it.

Still hiring for a few key positions before we open!

Joining us means being part of a home with ten or fewer residents, where you're more than just a number on a schedule. You become part of a small community where your work truly makes a difference. We're seeking CNAs, care partners, and support staff who are committed to doing this work the right way.

Not ready for full-time memory care? There's a middle option. Respite care at Zion Hill gives families a short-term stay, ranging from a few days to a few weeks, while a primary caregiver rests, travels, or recovers. For many families, it's also how they discover that their loved one actually thrives in a supported environment. Call (864) 410-2224 to ask about respite availability.

What does special education have to do with memory care? More than you'd think. Working with individuals with cognitive and physical disabilities for over 25 years teaches you how to see past the limitations of the person. How to meet someone where they are. How to advocate fiercely for someone who can't always advocate for themselves. That's the perspective Lanetra brings to Legato Living at Zion Hill every single day.
