Back-to-school season has a way of reminding us just how quickly time moves.

One minute, they’re little. Then somehow another school year begins, another milestone comes and you find yourself wishing you could slow it all down just a little.

This passage from The Bright Years by Sarah Damoff stopped me for exactly that reason.

Our children keep moving us forward, even while we’re trying so hard to hold onto the moments we’re in.

For every parent feeling that a little extra this back-to-school season—you’re not alone.

What season of parenthood do you wish you could freeze for just a little longer?

Six dollars. That’s all my father had in his pocket when he arrived in America.

Like so many immigrants before him, he believed in hard work, excellence, sacrifice—and building a better life for the generations that would follow.

Fifty years later, Samuel Family Cardiology is part of that story.

We believe healthcare should be a place where you feel seen, respected and cared for exactly as you are.

If you’re looking for a cardiologist in North Houston who believes every patient deserves compassionate, personalized cardiovascular care, we’d be honored to care for you.

Heart failure doesn't mean the heart has stopped — it means the heart isn't pumping as efficiently as it should.

It affects more than 6 million Americans, and the number is rising.

Signs to watch for:
🔸 Shortness of breath, especially when lying down
🔸 Swelling in the legs, ankles, or feet
🔸 Unexplained fatigue or weakness
🔸 Rapid weight gain (fluid retention)
🔸 Persistent cough or wheezing

Heart failure is manageable — especially when caught early. Treatment has come a long way, and many patients live full, active lives with the right care plan.

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, please don't wait. Call 911 in emergencies.

A few heart-healthy reminders as the fall routine kicks in:

🥗 Meal prep one or two days a week so healthy options are always ready.
🚰 Keep a water bottle with you. Hydration helps your heart and your energy.
🏃 Even 20 minutes of activity counts — a walk during lunch, or an evening bike ride.

Your heart doesn't slow down. Take care of it. 💙

Most people know smoking is bad for the lungs. But do you know what it does to your heart?

Smoking is one of the leading causes of cardiovascular disease. Here's why:

🔴 It damages the lining of blood vessels, making them more prone to plaque buildup.
🔴 It raises blood pressure and heart rate.
🔴 It lowers HDL ("good") cholesterol.
🔴 It makes blood more likely to clot — a direct trigger for heart attacks and strokes.

The good news: quitting works. Within just one year of quitting, heart attack risk can drop by 50%.
