Start the School Sleep Schedule Now
One of the hardest mornings of the school year isn't the first day of school. It's the first week, when children suddenly have to wake up an hour or two earlier after spending the summer staying up late and sleeping in.
The easiest way to avoid that struggle is to start adjusting their schedule about two weeks before school begins. Move bedtime and wake-up time earlier by 15 to 20 minutes every few days until they're back on their school routine.
A consistent bedtime, limiting screens during the hour before bed, and getting outside early in the morning can also help reset their internal clock.
The first week of school is stressful enough. Helping your child get the sleep they need before the school year starts can make those early mornings a little easier for everyone.
