Emergency and Safety Trainers Donates Lifesaving Bleeding Control Kits to Bonne Terre Police Officers

BONNE TERRE, MO — What began as a Facebook post about improving emergency preparedness has resulted in a significant donation that will help protect both law enforcement officers and the citizens they serve.

After seeing a social media post from local grocery store 10Box regarding a fundraiser to place trauma bags in Bonne Terre Police Department patrol vehicles, James Fields, Partner and Director of Education and Sales for Emergency and Safety Trainers, LLC, reached out to Bonne Terre Police Chief Jasen Crump to learn more about the department's needs and determine how his company could help.

During that conversation, Fields learned that while efforts were underway to improve emergency medical preparedness, many officers currently carried only a single tourniquet and had limited access to additional bleeding control supplies.

"As a paramedic and educator, that was concerning to hear," said Fields. "Police officers are often first on scene to shootings, serious vehicle crashes, industrial accidents, and other traumatic emergencies. They need more than just a tourniquet available to them. We wanted to help ensure they have the tools necessary to protect themselves and the community they serve."

Following the discussion, James and Nikki Fields, owners of Emergency and Safety Trainers, LLC, purchased and donated 16 personal bleeding control kits along with chest seals for Bonne Terre police officers. The kits are designed to provide immediate treatment for life-threatening bleeding injuries and can be used to treat officers, fellow first responders, or members of the public until additional medical help arrives.

According to the FBI's most recent Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted report, more than 90,000 law enforcement officers were assaulted in the line of duty during 2024, representing one of the highest assault rates recorded in recent years. Fi****ms continue to be among the leading causes of felonious officer deaths nationwide. Beyond threats directed at law enforcement, officers routinely encounter victims suffering from severe traumatic injuries caused by vehicle crashes, violent crimes, workplace incidents, and other emergencies.

Medical professionals emphasize that uncontrolled bleeding remains one of the leading preventable causes of death following traumatic injury. A person suffering from severe arterial bleeding can die within minutes if lifesaving interventions are not performed quickly. Equipment such as tourniquets, pressure bandages, chest seals, and wound-packing materials have become standard tools in military, EMS, and increasingly law enforcement settings because of their proven ability to save lives.

Chief Jasen Crump said the donation will significantly improve the department's ability to respond to both officer injuries and civilian emergencies.

"Having a personal bleeding control kit assigned to each officer provides immediate access to critical life-saving tools during emergencies," Crump said. "These kits are not only intended to protect our officers but also give them the ability to provide rapid medical care to victims of serious injuries before EMS personnel arrive. In situations involving traumatic injuries, severe vehicle accidents, or active threats, seconds matter. This equipment can make the difference between life and death, and we are extremely thankful to James and Nikki Fields and Emergency & Safety Trainers LLC for making this possible."

The donation reflects a growing recognition among law enforcement agencies nationwide that officers are often the first medically trained individuals to arrive during critical incidents. Whether responding to a serious motor vehicle crash, an industrial accident, a shooting, or another traumatic emergency, officers are frequently called upon to provide immediate lifesaving care during the crucial minutes before EMS personnel arrive.

Fields said the donation aligns closely with the mission of Emergency and Safety Trainers, LLC.

"Our goal has always been to help people save lives," Fields said. "Chief Crump's commitment to improving officer and community safety made this an easy decision. We are honored to support the Bonne Terre Police Department and grateful for everything these officers do for our community every day."

The partnership between the Bonne Terre Police Department, local businesses, and community supporters demonstrates what can be accomplished when organizations work together toward a common goal of protecting the citizens of Bonne Terre and the first responders who serve them.

While everyone involved hopes the kits never need to be used, having them readily available ensures officers will be better prepared if tragedy strikes.

For Fields, the decision was simple.

"If these kits save even one life—whether that's an officer, a victim of a crash, or a member of our community—then they will have served their purpose."
