St. Louis Cancer Care physician and leadership recently joined nearly 100 cancer care advocates from across the country in Washington, D.C., for the Community Oncology Alliance (COA) Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill.

Representing St. Louis Cancer Care were Dr. Giancarlo Pillot and Practice Manager Carol Riley, who met with members of Congress and congressional staff to discuss policies that support patient access to affordable, high-quality cancer care in local communities.

The advocacy effort focused on several key priorities, including protecting patient access to community-based cancer care, reducing out-of-pocket costs, supporting fair reimbursement policies, and addressing insurance and pharmacy benefit manager practices that can create barriers to timely treatment.

Independent community oncology practices care for the majority of Americans receiving cancer treatment and help patients access care close to home. During their meetings on Capitol Hill, Dr. Pillot and Carol shared the importance of preserving and strengthening community-based cancer care so patients can continue receiving treatment in the settings they know and trust.

St. Louis Cancer Care remains committed not only to providing exceptional cancer care throughout the St. Louis region, but also to advocating for policies that help ensure patients have access to the treatments they need, when and where they need them.

Did you know? A new COA study found that patients treated in community oncology practices lived longer compared to national benchmarks.

This reinforces what we believe every day—exceptional cancer care doesn’t require leaving your community.
